Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional

1 Answer

I downloaded a trial version of Office 2007, so that I could edit a "publishing" version of a workbook for a friend. When the trial period was over, I was unable to write to any of my Word files. So, I uninstalled the MS Office 2007 files, and reinstalled my Office XP software (Version 2002), and my Word files all became unreadable. I now have word files that I cannot read, and I need them. Also, I share files with fellow board members of an organization to which I belong, and none of them could ever read my Word 2007 files because they all have older versions of Word. How can I convert the Word 2007 files back to Word XP? I Googled the question and tried to understand the instructions, but the instructions were too hard to follow.

Uninstall everything. Install Office old version. (XP or 2002). Then install this program.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=941b3470-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en

Now you can open 2007 word files in old versions of word.

I would advise you to buy and install only a genuine licensed version of Microsoft Office Word 2007 or you will almost certainly have authorization problems, which defeat the object of installing the software.

You can buy a genuine licensed version of Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus Edition starting from about $85 or Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Edition for about $78 (plus shipping and packing) from (and similar websites):

There are some websites online which claim that you can download Microsoft Office Word 2007 from them but as far as i know there is nowehere on the internet where you can download a genuine copy of any Microsoft Office software except the official Microsoft website.

The only legal downloads of Microsoft products are available only from Micrsosoft and Microsoft do not offer downloads of old products like Microsoft Office 2007 or Office 2003. The only Microsoft Office product you can download is the trial version of whatever latest version of Microsoft Office that is available. Currently you can only download Microsoft Office 2010 trial. Trial versions of Microsoft Office are free to download but can only be used for the limited trial period. After the trial period ends you have to upgrade to the full version and pay Microsoft for an online activation code which unlocks the trial version's time limitation and allows you to use it indefinitely.

If you need this type of software but do not want to or cannot afford to pay what Microsoft Office costs, then you can use completely free Office software like OpenOffice, which is very similar to Microsoft Office and can even be used to open most Microsoft Office documents. You don't have to pay anything at all to download OpenOffice.

The website for Microsoft Office trial and activation code downloads is: www.microsoft.com

The website for OpenOffice is: www.openoffice.org

Why not buy and install a genuine licensed version of Microsoft Office Word 2007 otherwise you will almost certainly have authorization problems which will defeat the very purpose of installing the software in the first place.

You can buy a genuine licensed Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus Edition software starting for just $85 or Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Edition for about $78 (plus packing and shipping) from here (and from many similar websites):

http://www.software4students.co.uk/Microsoft_Office_Professional_Plus_2007-details.aspx

Trial versions of Microsoft Office are free to download but can only be used for the limited period of the trial. After the trial period has finished you will have to upgrade to the full version and pay Microsoft for an online activation code that unlocks the trial version and allows you to use the software forever.

If this type of software is what you need but you don't want or cannot afford to pay the price of Microsoft Office, then why not download and install totally free Office software like Open Office, which is very similar to Microsoft Office and even opens most Microsoft Office documents. Open Office is completely free to download and install and has no authorization or activation issues.

Every time i type it always says: this modification is not allowed because the selection is locked

It is due to expiry of th trial period for the office suite application. You will have to enter the 25 character full version product key to unlock it or else you will to purchase the full version product key online.
Alternative way is to uninstall the trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 Standard edition an install the office 2010 trial edition which will be valid for another 60 days.
To download trial office 2010 suite:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/try/
OR
You can use the open office suite which is absolutely free. The open office suite will provide the same feature and functionality as the Microsoft office suite.

The trial period is up and it is time to purchase a key from Microsoft. Or you can go to http://www.sun.com and download and install their free OpenOffice 3. This office suite has data base, spread sheet, presentation and word processing programs too. OpenOffice will import MS Office files so you can still use your data. If you want a free publishing program, check out Scribus from http://www.scribus.net/.
