See if a DVD works. For me, I know my Bluray is ruined because I can watch DVDs and play PS2 games fine but anything Bluray does not work. If a DVD does not work, you have more of a problem, if DVD does work you need a new BlueRay which Sony should take care of for you. If you don't have receipt, etc. like me you can buy a new Bluray (KES-400AAA) on Ebay and use this guide to install it http://edpsystemssupport.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=45. Hope that helps.

Tried several things and determined the blu-ray lens are shot. Traded system in towards a new one from Game Stop. Not worth the expense of lens replacement, cleaning and overall frustration.
This is most likely do to a previous freeze up while on the PS3. All you have to do is to first disconnect all of the plugs and wires. Then you put them back in and turn on the PS3. It should read your PS3 game discs.
I bet your blu-ray lens is going bad. If your PS3 is backwards compatible, try putting in a PS2 game or Standard-Def movie. If it loads/plays just fine...that narrows it down to the blu-ray lens/drive. This happened to me a few weeks ago. *NOTE* WHATEVER you do, DO NOT send your PS3 to PSR1. They stole $109 from me. They DO NOT fix your PS3. They lie. I am spending my free time right now trying to help people save their money. THEY STEAL FROM GAMERS! SO WRONG!
Hi,
This is a common problem on the ps3 unfortunately and is caused by a faulty blue-ray drive. Unit will have to go back to Sony for service.
You should try a DVD cleaning disk first to be sure that dirt on the laser lense is not causing the issue
However if this fails and you are confident with electronics there are several videos on YouTube showing how to replace the drive if you choose to order it and do it yourself.
See an example below.
Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks
Hi there. it sounds like the blue ray drive has failed on your ps3.I take it that sony repaired your old one or sent out a reconditioned unit? If it is still under warranty get them to replace it again and insist on a 12 month warranty. i am on my 3rd unit now and because its a 40 gig model which they dont make anymore i am having to do with yet another reconditioned unit. hope this helps.
the PS3 laser has two wavelegths at 405nm(bluelight) and 750nm (redlight). the highpower lower wavelength diode on your machine im afraid has failed. The bluray light reads bluray games and bluray dvd's. the lower power red light reads audio cds and regular dvds/dvdrs. you need to install a new laser ..only 100 i charge or 160 from sony (150+TAX+2 week wait+frustration from not playing COD4..lol) Now if you have the newer model laser KES410ACA, then you have 2 SEPARATE light sources...these tend not to fail as often. it costs the same to fix
