Question about E-Machines Computers & Internet

I have a ET1831 and after about 30 minutes the machine shuts off. All programs run fine. Do I have a power supply problem or a mother board problem? How best do I diagnose the problem?

It could be a Power Supply issue or Hot chip condition on the motherboard due to lack of Air Flow for cooling or a problem with the motherboard. The first things I would check for are a Virus and Air Flow. There are a couple of Viruses out there that will do this. Get a can of compressed air and open the case and clear all the air channels and blow the dust out of it. With the case open turn the computer on and make sure the Cooling fan on the CPU works and the fan in the Power supply is working. If the CPU fan is not working replace it. Same with the the power supply fan, you would have to replace the complete power supply if that one is faulty. If your Video card has a fan on it make sure that is working as well. You maybe able to replace that fan if it's not but you may have to replace the video card if it isn't working. That would present you with a situation that the Video shuts down but the rest of the computer stays running. You will also want to check your power saver options and make sure you don't have them set to shut the computer down on time. I use screen savers and Hibernate settings to protect the screen from burn in but rarely actually shut down my computers.

Hp pavillion slimline shuts down for no reason

Although you think there is no reason, the computer has a different opinion.
Most of the time when a computer (most electronic devices) shuts down, there is something wrong. Most likely the computer is running hot for some reason. Not knowing how long it will stay on, there is little advice. If it is running for minutes, you could try to install a monitor program for the hardware. And let the program tell you how hot the processor and the mother board are.
But perhaps cleaning all dust out of the fan's and power supply so air can flow through, will doe the trick?

Hi,

If your motherboard & CPU temperatures are normal, there is a possibility that your power supply is faulty. A new power supply is inexpensive but you could also try using a power supply from a PC which is in good working order.

Let me know if this solves your problem or not. Remember to use a power supply with a wattage rating equal to or higher than the current power supply you are using.

Hi, what you have not tested for isolation is your power supply, re-seating of processor for 20 minutes, cmos clearing or battery removal and mother board swapping. If all your isolation seems futile the worst is the mother board.

I unplugged my emachine desktop when i went on vacation and now after repluggging it is dead to the world?

Hello there:
This is fairly common on these e-machines
Normally what happens is that the silver coin sized cmos battery will drain down and when this does by default it shuts it'self completly down untill you replace the battery ill need to be replaced.
Now what you can try first is to unplug the power cord from the computer and open the case and look for the cord that goes from the power supply that connects to the mother board and unplug it now press in the power on button for 1 min and release and if you have a reset switch do the same thing than wait 5 minutes and then reconnect every thing and try the computer again and see if this will get the system going ok if not get the battery changed and also check out the power supply too to make sure that it is running if not than the power supply may be bad but i dont see why it would if it was running just fine before you unplugged the machine ok
Hope all of this is very helpful for you If so please rate this solution for me
Best regards
Michael

Emachines T3958 will not turn on

Check the fuse on the inside of it and see if it is not blown, if not blown change it any way it may not look like it is blown but it is hard to tell, and see if that work.

Machine just stops but power is on

that is the power board (in base plate) you need a rebuilt base plate. Unless you can rebuild the power board. You can buy a rebuilt board and send your in and receive a core credit. It still will probably run $200 to get one. It will also come with a 2 year warranty.
