Question about HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

Can't install the HP8500 Pro Wireless printer. When install gets to the "Configuring Your Product" it stops at 96% complete and won't go any further. It eventually reports a fatal error and failed installation. Any help will be appreciated.

To add to above, no amount of uninstall and reinstall of the HP software has solved this problem. I am now on my second printer, purchased from Office Depot, and both machines have had the same installation problem. The failure notation reads something like, "hpzsetup.exe""inf"\autorun_usb".

Well, in most cases, this problem is related to registry issues, so you need to fix it using the command prompt. Follow the instructions below:
Refer to this picture and type in the same command in the Command Prompt:
Click "Start" > "Run" (or just press windows key + R on the keyboard to start open the "run"), type in "Cmd". A new window similar to the below picture will open up.
Can't install the HP8500 Pro - 49fb610.jpg

Type in the same commands as shown above, you get a message similar to this.. "regsvr32 hpslpsvc32.dll". After that go to registry editor, to do this, type in "regedit" in the run and go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT > SvcHost" right-click on "Svchost" select "permission" another windows will open up, from there click on your username and set the permission to "Full control" - "Allow", click "Apply" > "Ok", now restart your computer and install the software again. I hope this will definitely fix your problem.

If the problem persists, please let me know with the Operating System Installed on your system.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Thanks for your quick reply. However, before I try your proposed solution, I want to make you aware, and sorry I forgot to provide this, that my operating system is XP and SP3. Does this make any difference in your porposed solution?

No problem, go ahead with my instructions, you shouldn't wait for my reply. I already mentioned "If the problem persists,"..... Thanks

Sorry for the delay in responding but HP has spent much time with me trying to resolve the problem without success. I can't get to the windows you show in your command prompt above. So, I went ahead and went through the regit process you described. When I get to SvcHost and right click it I get the window you described. I have Administrator rights and that user is already check marked for Full Control. Two of the other users, Creator Owner and Users(Desktop\Users) are not checked for Full Control. Can you give me any more suggestions.

    Thanks for your help.

Well, now let's try with what the Hp Says.

    1. First, download and install this (Windows Installer Latest Updated)

    2. While it's being downloaded, disable the Windows Update from the Control Panel.

    3. After you are done with the installation, click "Start" > "Run" and type in "msiexec /unregister" (without quotes) and press Enter. (Note: one space after msiexec)

    4. Again Start > Run and type in "msiexec /regserver" and press Enter.

    5. Now Install the Hp programs and driver.

If this isn't helpful, we'll try to work with the Registry Editor.

    Once again Good luck.

It took me awhile to get back to this. I followed your latest 5 steps carefully and reinstalled the HP programs with the machine setup for USB connection. It did not work. As before, all software is installed but the "configuring your product" step 4 still freezes at 96% complete and then is followed with the failed installation message and this prevents full usage of the machine through the computer. What is the next step?

Thanks for staying with me and for your help.

Sorry for the late reply. Well, then let's try this, registry cleaning. First download this small freeware (click here to download ccleaner), open the link, click "Download Now", wait for 20 seconds and again click "Download file now" (please don't click anywhere or anything except the link/button i've mentioned here). After download is completed, install the program. Now open the program (ccleaner), click "Run Cleaner", wait for few minutes/seconds and confirm if you are asked to do so. Again click "Registry" (blue button on the left pane), and on the left pane, click "Scan for issues", wait for another few seconds until the scanning progress is completed, and click "Fix all selected issues" > "No" > "Fix all selected issues" > "Ok" > "Close". Now click the "Tool" on the left pane and uninstall all the hp components/softwares installed. Click on the name of the software from the lists available and click "Run Uninstaller" on the right pane to uninstall the program (skip if no Hp software is shown and restart your computer). After the uninstall is completed, again re-run the Registry cleaning and restart your computer. Now connect your printer (after it is switched On) and when you are asked for drivers, proceed forward (insert the hp cd that came with the printer but don't install the whole softwares, instead follow the steps) with the Found New Hardware wizard by clicking "No not this time" > "next" > "install from a lists or specific location (advanced)" > "Next" and click browser, now browse to the cd directory and go to "Driver" folder and click "Ok" then "Next" and proceed forward, if you are prompted with a warning message click "continue anyway". After the driver installation is finished, click "Finish" and restart your computer. Now insert the Hp cd and install only selected software one by one, not all at a time.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

OK. Went through each of your steps exactly. I happen to use CCleaner often so had it on the computer. Your strategy worked but only up to a point. I was able to get the printer configured. But, when I came back and installed only the HP Solution Center software, which is what I need to fully access the printer from the computer, it still would not work. The printer works on both USB and networked, both ethernet and wireless. I can print documents from the computer and I can scan using a direct link to HP Scanner Software. But, the Solution Center software will not recognize it even though the Solution Center software is installed. Any more ideas? And, of course, thanks for all of your help.

I am not sure why HP can't give us the cause of this problem, they are only giving us instructions to try. If there's a problem, then there must a cause and it's easier to troubleshoot and fix the problem. Without knowing the cause, it's not so simple. We have been through upto this. Now let's try with what the other says.

Run the Installation, and while it's in progress (just before reaching 96%) restart your computer, you may be warned that there's program running, go ahead by ending the programs, leave the Hp CD in the Cd-Rom drive and when the system restarts, the installation will continue automatically. Wait for few minutes after it fully booted and see if it (installation) continues or not.

In the meantime, I can also say that your program is also a "Wonderful thing" :-). Since it's completed upto 96%, the all program should at least run without any problem. As you had mentioned, 96% is the step "Configuring your product", the remaining steps (%) will only be registration and and something like "applying settings" etc... You can try opening the Hp Solution Center after terminating the running installation (if I were you, i'd do that). If programs are running, then you can check the features, like Network, Scan, etc. etc..

The damn thing is that hp never reveals the causes of the problem. This is ridiculous that they have several solutions and there's no cause of the problem. You can refer to this Hp Solution Center Installation 96% problem.

Let me know if the problem persists, next we will try "TSR"..

    Good luck once again.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

As before, thank you for so much help. At this time I have made contact with the HP software releases response team and have described the problem to them. I received an email back that they will work on it so let's see what they can do, if anything. I'll keep you advised and would appreciate it if you can stay with me on this. In the meantime, I read the article you provided the link above. I had seen it before. The one thing I haven't tried is to reboot the computer when the progress bar hits 96%. I'll give that a try. Once again, thanks for all of your help.

HP8500 Cayan ink leaks

Either the cartridge is faulty, was improperly installed or the seal has gone on the cartridge carrier.

Take out the Cyan cartridge and one other. Check the mounting area where the ink comes out. If the cartridge has the ink jets as part of it, check the cartridge for holes near the upper surface. Remove the carrier (if removable) and look for bad seals and wash it.

A quick Google shows this is a common fault with this model. Cut your losses and buy a Canon.
