Question about HP Compaq nc6220 Notebook

1 Answer

I have recently bought a 4GB SDHC for use in a project I am building; When inserted into the slot windows does not respond nd the card heats up. I am running XP SP3, I have no other SD cards to compare. I have tried HP driver pakages sp30714, sp33439 and sp43509 {2.0.0.1 A, 2.0.0.1 A, 2.0.0.9 A respectively} with [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\tifm21\Parameters] "SDParam"=dword: premutations {0x00000010, 0x00000011, 0x00000001, 0x00000000} http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=923293 reports that my version of windows is newer and is it unnecessary to install this. Any suggestions other than "install Linux", "use a debugger to inject the needed initilization into memory on startup" or "get another reader" since I do not have the time to install partition and install Linux, and the reader is in the mail.

New problem, somehow installing all of these different driver packages has uninstalled Adobe Pro. What else may have been affected?

Turns out that the connector had a bent pin inside, accidentally straightened it when it got stuck to a new 2 GB SD card.

The P880 works with MMC and SD cards. Your new 4GB card is an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. The camera is limited to working with cards 2GB and smaller.

I have an Exilim EX Z500 digital cam, the recent Micro SD that inserted to it have only 256MB that's too short.. so I bought a 4GB Micro SD card.. but why can't my EX Z500 accept a 4GB?

The problem is that your camera will only read SD cards, not SDHC cards, I checked its specification. You found your 256Mb card too small and bought a replacement, not noticing that it was SDHC. The new card doesn't work, not because it or the camera is broken, but because it's not compatible.

Cards up to 2Gb are generally SD. Cards over 8Gb have to be SDHC. 4Gb cards can be either SD or SDHC, but are almost always SDHC because they're cheaper. I'm willing to bet that the 4Gb card you got is actually SDHC because 4Gb SD cards are so rare that I've even seen a guru on this site claim they don't exist. I did own one once, but it was very expensive and turned out to be so unreliable that I had to return it.

Your solution is to go find a 2Gb card, and be extra sure that it doesn't say "SDHC" on it. (If it does, it probably means that they made a 4Gb card, but there were some error locations and so they disabled half of it and packaged it as a cheap-brand 2Gb.)

The Optio S4 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible. You need to go with cards 2GB and smaller.

There are no 4GB SD cards. "SD" cards larger than about 2GB are actually SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

UNABLE TO ACCESSMY 4GB MICRO SD CARD

Your memory card reader lacks SDHC compatibility. You must either update your pc card reader to one which is compliant with SDHC or use a cheap external card reader to do the job.

SD and SDHC cards look the same and fit the same slots, but they have significant technical differences which older readers cannot handle.

Your slot in the iPAQ is a SD slot, not a SDHC slot - therefore it will not read the card. Your PC card is probably a dual reader. The SD cards look the same but are different. Have a read of this...
