Mcdevito75 here, You mean the restore feature. Click on start, then control panel then Performance and maintainance, on the left side of that screen click system restore. Or you can type system restore into search from your home page. Hope this helps.

Did you reformat the entire hard drive when you installed Vista? If you formatted the recovery partition you won't be able to go back without a Xp installation disc.

How to change windows xp pro to windows xp home?

Hi you will need to get an official copy of windows home and install it (it hard but not impossible to find a genuine copy.) Make sure you back up every thing to another drive before installing as you will lose every thing on your c drive .

I hope this helps

Fan or drive excessiverly noisy windows xp home edition ixtreme

There's a big difference between the fan and the drive. If it's the fan, clean the dust out of your computer. If it's the drive, get it backed up so you don't lose everything when it crashes.

Windows XP installation

Make sure you back up any important files on that gateway machine before you install Windows XP Home because you may lose some during installation. You definitely will lose files if you chose to format the hard drive during your installation of XP which is recommended. After you backup, everything should be a breeze.

Windows XP Pro installed but computer boots to Home Edition

It sure is possible.
I would take it back to them and demand that WINXP Pro is put back in there and it boot correctly
They saved about 50 bucks putting in WINXP Home.

Sounds like a bunch of rookies trying to pull a fast one.

How to remove a second installation of a windows o/s

you would not have been able to install xp home over xp pro as pro is an upgrade from home, so xp pro will be on a different drive partition, so the last version you put on will be on the 'C' drive as thats the one that is bootable. Follow your instructions, or simply use your xp disc to format the drive and install XP home.
