Bobbin thread picks up when there is no fabric in machine,as soon as i put fabric under the foot it skips stitches or doesn't catch at all. have changed needles, re threaded and adjusted timing.

Hi,
I have run into this problem on newer light weight machines.
Remove the nose cover and look for thread wrap in the upper tension control, even a small piece of fluff can keep the discs from closing when you drop the presser foot.
Try not to disassemble the upper tension control because they can be tricky to get back together.
Check around the slack arm, thread will wrap-up at the pivot.
Good luck.

Why is the top thread wrapping around the bobbin case and not pulling the bobbin thread through?

The hook pulls the top thread half way around the bobbin case and then the slack arm pulls it the rest of the way around. The slack arm is in the upper part of the machine barely visible on newer machines, but you do hook the thread thru it while threading the machine. If your thread doesn't go thru the tension discs or the tension is very low, then the slack arm has nothing to pull against, like a tug of war where the guys on the other end of the rope let go!
Try pulling on the upper thread before the needle and be sure the presser foot is down (up releases the tension). Adjust the tension and you should feel a difference.

I have a Brother sewing machine and whenever I try to pick up the bottom thread (or when I try to sew), the upper thread gets caught around the bobbin case causing a huge, knotted mess. It's just all...

Check your top tension dial setting is on 5, as this sounds like the thread is not in tension fully so is looping up around the rotary hook and not being held back by the tension device. Is the pressure foot lowered (this turns the tension on) fully and is the thread through the tension discs correctly. Lower the pressure foot and pull the top thread from below the tension dial, it should feel firm to pull, if it comes out easy, its not undertension, device could be faulty and machine will need to be serviced.

Also, check that the bobbin case is fully inserted into the rotary hook in the correct position, bobbin is in and rotating the right way and thread is into the tension spring fully.

If you have the manual pull it out, and carefully check the threading up instructions and follow on your machine - it is probably one of these things causing the jamming.

Top thread keeps getting wrapped around bobbin case on LX-3125

You should hold the end of the thread coming through the needle until the thread has grasped the bobbin thread.

Needle will not pick up bobbin threat

Try flipping the bobbin spool so the thread comes off in the other direction.
Forcing means that the needle has been jammed against the sewing plate ant the needle is now out of timing with the bobbin pickup.

Not picking up the Bobbin thread

Sounds like you have to take off the throat plate and clean out threads under it.  Sometime they ball up and prevent the needle from going down and catching the bobbin thread. You can't see themuntil you take off the plate.  Follow the directions.  It is easy.

Upper thread wraps around bobbin mechanism, while sewing

IT PROBABLY IS THREADED INCORRECTLY. GO SLOWLY BY THE DIAPHRAGM AND MAKE SURE IT IS THREADED CORRECTLY. ALSO MAKE SURE SPOOL PIN HOLDERS ARE IN PLACE THAT HELPS TO GUIDE THE THREAD CORRECTLY.

Needle will not pick up bobbin threat

I had the exact same problem. The timing is off. You can actually fix this yourself all you need is an allen wrench. If you look at the rod the needle is inserted into and follow it up to about 2 inches below the top of the machine there should be a clamp. use the allan wrench to loosen the clamp and adjust the needle height. I used this website as a guide to getting the timing correct. http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Repair/Repair_Pictures/timing1.gif

now if only I could figure out why my thread keeps getting jammed under the bobbin!
