The disk should be in a sleeve that connects to the MB. It should come out fairly easily. Gently try to remove it. Once the cage & disk are out you can remove the screws and get the drive free.

Toshiba disk drive mk6028gal

The hard disk drive (HDD) in your Toshiba laptop is the component that holds all the files and folders you use.
If you are running out of room on the hard disk drive because of all the programs you have installed, it may be time to replace it with a new one that has a larger capacity.
Replacing the hard disk drive on a Toshiba laptop is a fairly straightforward and simple process, as you only need to remove one other component to be able to reach the hard drive.

Save a backup copy of any file or program that you will need from the original hard disk drive to an external device such as a CD-RW or USB flash drive.
Shut down the Toshiba laptop's operating system completely.
Disconnect the power cable if it was plugged in and then close the top screen lid.
Flip the entire unit over so that the bottom end of the laptop case is facing towards you.

Hold down the release latch for the Toshiba laptop's battery.
Slide the laptop battery out of the case and then put it aside.
Locate the screw at the upper-left corner of the case that holds the CD or DVD drive into place.
Remove the screw and set it aside. Grab the edge of the CD or DVD drive and then pull it away from the Toshiba laptop case. Set the drive aside.
Remove the four screws holding the large square plastic cover over the hard disk drive at the lower left end of the laptop case.
Lift the square plastic cover off the laptop case and set it aside so that you can see the metal plate that covers the hard disk drive.
Take out the screws holding the metal plate in place.
Lift the metal plate out of the case and set it aside.
Remove the two screws at the top edge of the hard disk drive and then the two screws at the bottom edge of the hard disk drive.
Disconnect the hard drive from the motherboard by sliding it out towards you.
Lift the hard disk drive out of the case and set it aside.
Push the new hard drive into the open slot and then reconnect the four screws.
Set the metal plate back on top of the new hard disk drive and then attach its screws.
Put the plastic cover on and reattach the cover's screws.
Slide the CD or DVD drive back into its port and then reconnect the screw.
Put the battery back into the Toshiba laptop.
Turn the laptop over and open up the screen.
Power the computer on. Insert the recovery disk that came with the Toshiba laptop into the CD or DVD drive.
Follow the operating system installation instructions that will appear on the screen.
Transfer the backup copies of the files you saved earlier from the external device to the new hard drive.

Acer Aspire Am3470g case removal

I also have an Acer Aspire AM-3470G & just swapped DVD drives trying to troubleshoot a problem. Remove the one side panel with the finger tab that gives you access to the system board/HD's, etc. No need to remove the opposite side panel. With the panel off, there are 3 black plastic tabs holding the front cover on. Release them so that the front panel pivots to the opposite side which also has 3 black tabs. Those tabs will release themselves as you pivot the front cover. You may need a bit of force to pivot the cover so be careful not damage the plastic tabs. You'll now have complete access to the DVD tray area. The DVD is held in by 2 exposed screws, there are none on the opposite side of the drive. Unscrew them, disconnect the power & SATA connectors & slide out the drive. If you replace the DVD drive, test the new one before you reassemble all the covers to verify everything works.

Acer aspire 5253 error message no botable device after laptop was dropped on carpet

No bootable device suggests that your Acer Aspire hard disk may have been damaged when the computer was dropped.
You should try opening the cover on the base of the laptop where the hard drive is fitted and check to make sure that the drive is seated firmly and has not come loose with the drop. See the Acer Aspire 5253 Quick Start Guide for the location of the drive cover.
If reseating the drive does not help, then you would need to find any recovery discs that you may have made or received with the laptop plus need to buy and install a replacement hard drive.

How to change hard drive in acer 5315

This picture is from the 5315 User's Guide:

pgh_pa_guy_5.jpg

Number 5 is the hard drive compartment cover. Remove the two screws at the right with a small Phillips screwdriver and pop the cover loose, using the notch at the top. The hard drive is plugged into a connector under the cover. Slide the drive forward to release it from the connector and lift it out of the computer. Place the new drive into the compartment, slide it back into its connector, replace the cover and you've done it. All that's left is to reinstall Windows or restore the factory image.

Thanks for using Fixya, and good luck with the repair!

Acer 507DX Travelmate, need to remove cover/case to install new HD, apart from the dozen or so screws in the bottom, what else holds it?

The hard drive is usually located under a recess plate on the base of the laptop.
If you locate the battery on the underside, the hard drive cover is next to it and is held on with just two screws.
Hope this helps.

Installing the flexible drive shaft from the motor to the rotor head. I pulled off the rotor head thinking I had to do this to replace a new plastic line assy. Now I can't get the flexible shaft to...

At the motor drive end, (where the engine is).. the end of the flex drive should mate with the clutch housing. You may just need to remove the clutch-housing cover in front of the motor to access it and turn it until it accepts the flex drive.

I am trying to remove the HD, so I can connect it to a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Not sure how to remove the HD.

Hi

thank you for your query

Please do the following

1) Turn the laptop over on its front
2) You will be presented with the bottom of the laptop, the screen hinges should be facing the front
3) In the bottom left hand coner there will be 2 screws, screwed into what looks like a little black plastic cover
4) Remove these 2 screws and using a flat bladed screwdriver open up the plate
5)The hard drive will be located underneath this cover
6)Simply pull the drive to the left or right (depending what side the connector is on), and pull up and out

This will remove the hard drive, reverse the above if you wish to reinstall

I hope this helps

Mystery ribbon cable in hard drive compartment.

Do you have room for two hard drives in your computer. Depending on how big the ribbon cable it is, it can be for a keyboard, connecting to another part in the laptop, or it can connect the video to a ground.

If your laptop is where you just exposed the hard drive and there is one of those cables there, don't worry. Just tape it back up to where is was because sometimes it is just behind a plate or something.

Look at how the ribbon cable is (the shape); including the length. That will tell you where is goes.
