Question about Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 Webcam

1 Answer

My MS VX6000 webcam is playing up. It still picks up sound, but not image. Just a black screen - whether in its own interface or skype. I have already tried to reinstall software, and no difference. Is this a known problem, or has the lens just packed in or something?

Thanks, but I had already unplugged, reinstalled drivers, etc. This is not a set-up problem: it was working fine and then one day just stopped capturing images. I can still Skype, record in sound, etc. Just no video.

When you go to Control Panel, Hardware, Devices, can you see your webcam and does it have a green check mark showing it is Enabled?

  • anansigirl Aug 07, 2010

Yes. (Though scouting around in there I just found out how to finally install a scanner I was given recently and couldn't get working. Cheer! lol)

Humm...try this free webcam test site and see if it works there. You will have to click "Allow" when prompted on the site.

  • anansigirl Aug 07, 2010

Hmmm. Still records audio but no video. Useful, mind, as it makes me think it probably is the lens itself that has packed in. :(

Your webcam seems to be broken. The only advice I'd have at this point is to replace it. Sorry.

  • anansigirl Aug 07, 2010

Yeah. But thanks for your help. I'd read other postings that suggested all sorts of complicated things to do with clean boots etc to resolve conflicts. But the webcam test made it clear it is a hardware thing. Oh well. *shrugs*

There are usually a few places to change your image size and quality. You can look under the start menu for the Acer utilities and then webcam settings. You can set the size and image quality there so it doesn't take up the screen. The other way is usually through the messenger software such as Skype or Yahoo messenger or MS messenger etc. There is a tuning and setup section in each you have to run that checks your image and sound and you can set it there. This can override your Acer settings while running so will only sned a smaller image and so on. You can set it to send webcam all the time automatically or only when you want to. The other person will have to use the same messenger to see and talk to you. They can also choose to accept images or not.

Use the software you have loaded but try operating in Compatibility Mode

Right click on the webcam icon on your desktop or the webcam file from 'All Programs' - select 'Properties'
Select the 'Compatibility' tab

Use the dropbox to show the OS
Click OK

I am new to using a web cam. I purchased the VX6000 and everything is working, however, the people I talk to on it only see static pictures of me (Skype).

I think what they are seeing is the photo you took with your webcam when you set up your account.
Make sure your webcam is is working OK and then check your settings

  1. Start Skype.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Audio Settings.
  4. Select your LifeCam device as the default microphone. For example, select Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000.
  5. In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
  6. Select your LifeCam device as the default Webcam. For example, select Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Test LifeCam by making a Skype test call.

Ms 211 webcam and skype version 4.0 for windows XP compatibility

You can try to download and install a program called SplitCam, which allows you to use your webcam as the video source in that program.
SplitCam then allows you to use the webcam in multiple other programs.

In Skype you can select the SplitCam video source, rather than the webcam itself.
Worked for me, hope it helps.

Try using "SplitCam", can solve problems with a lot of webcams. It basically acts as an interface between your webcam and applications using it.
