I have a Dell D-2400 I installed more memory, faster hard drive, and new video card. Both drives are suppost to play dvd. Although both drives still play MP3 neither will play or read DVD. I have replaced cable to the disk drives, reloaded the drivers, searched for driver updates. When I insert a DVD it says insert a disk into drive.

You need the driver for your dvd rom player so media recognizes your dvd player.
You can either check on the brand site from the player or at microsoft .com and than press for update. They will check your computer and give you updates also for your hardware

Window media cannot play because there is sound problem in my computer

I wish, I can know the operating system installed on your computer and the exact error message that you are seeing on the screen. Anyway, try this.. first download and install this.. (Microsoft uaa bus on high definition audio driver). Open the link and click "Download" button and save it. After it's installed, download anyone of these..(select your Operating System):
1. Realtek High Definition audio driver for windows xp and previous windows versions.

2. Realtek High Definition Audion Driver for Windows Vista 32

Download and install the drivers, restart your computer and try playing songs/movies etc.. using the Windows Media Player. It'll work fine.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Dell Optiplex GX270 Driver Questions

On the Audio driver question: the answer is yes the Audio driver is what allows you to have sound.

On the DVD software, I did not see any software on Dell link. Download Windows Media, newest version is ver.11
It will allow you to watch DVDs

You can also check this site:

Copy and paste the complete link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

My computer wont let me watch movies now. it keeps saying something about my dvd decoder wasnt installed.

if you bought the computer new or the DVD drive new , you whould have got a CD with it , most probably with something like WinDVD or something , if you have the specific CD with DVD software on it install it , as it will enable you to watch DVD's using Windows media player etc..

if you bought the computer second hand etc.. and or cant find the cd's a free solution is to download VLC media player (Download here) the only disadvantage about using this free solution is that you will have to play the DVD's through VLC you wont be able to use windows media player etc. to play DVD's as VLC does not require decoder software to play DVD's

otherwise you can purchase software such as WinDVD and this will enable you to play using your media player of choice.

Thanks!

Sound card wont play root media files

Hi Hughdog
well, Biostar mobos are know for a lot issues, but depending too, on the OS, windows XP I presume, go on safe mode, and uninstall all audio drivers, and disable on the BIOS audio. then start the PC, and install the audio card. or if is a internal audio reenable again, redetec the drivers, and install them according to the CD and drivers. you should see the play device now and play music correctly.
good luck
