Question about Heating & Cooling
Could be a couple of things. Is the compressor turning on when you say it "cools"? Based on what you've told me, I would look first to the thermostat being the problem. If the compressor turns on then off after 10 minutes then turns off even though the room is still too warm, then the thermostat might be faulty.
If the unit is new, take it back to the store. If not, see if you can get the thermostat looked into. That's where I would start.

I had just cleaned the dust on my 2006 pelonis stand alone ac floor unit. It seems the compressor not kickin in. The fan is working properly. Is there a need for freon or would a lack of amps coming in from our electrical box cause the compressor not to kick-in. Only used 3 months a year in new england

Every single component in your cooling unit is needed for it to work, so anything can shut it down. If you could provide more information as to what type of unit you have: is it a central heat and air package unit? or central split system (furnace indoors and condenser outside)? or a wall a/c? Does any part of the system/unit do anything?
