Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

SD Tech, I believe I have the problem as described in your help for "I have a Mitsubishi WS-55511 that won't turn on" back in Jan 2010. I followed your instructions and did the self-check. I think I have the 2,2 "Short Protection" issue. The green light blinked 20 times total, so I assume it blinked 2 then 2 for 5 rounds. I read your fix for the fuses, but honestly, anything with solder is tricky for me. Do you provide your services in home in San Diego? If not, approximately how much should a repair like this cost from a tv repairman? Also, if you can't help personally, can you recommend any reputable repairment in San Diego? Thanks, Bernard

The Sears tech said that the Power Board needs to be replaced. He said that the power failure was nothing that I did, just happened due to the age of the tv (bought 2002). Power Board is not made by Mitsubishi anymore so it needs to be sent to a lab for rebuilding. Estimate is $700. Is it worth reviving this TV or should I retire it and invest the money in a 55" lcd for $1,500? Kind of a shame for a tv that is in overall great condition a was working nicely until now. Do I just throw it away or is there a market for selling it for parts? Any advice is appreciated.

It should cost you around $200. BTW SD Tech doesn't do home calls. He has a repair shop somewhere in Nevada.

Thanks for your reply. $200 would be great, but I cannot find anyone reputable in San Diego to give me an honest price. Sears quoted me $700 because Mitsubishi does not make the power board anymore and thus it needs to be repaired/rebuilt. Is this reasonable or are they high balling me? Does the whole power board need to be replaced or just fuses? I would rather invest the $700 in a new lcd. I am having trouble finding a reputable repairman in San Diego so if you know of any please let me know. Thanks for your help.

Take your unit to Sears repair or and authorized Mitsubishi repair center.

About how much should this cost (so I know if I'm getting ripped off or not). Also, I tried pressing the system reset with a small allen wrench. I don't feel anything depress, click, or trigger. I'm afraid to push too hard and cause damage. Is my system reset button bad too?

How do i reset my mitsubishi television model#ws-55511

First a reset may not help unless I know what your problem is.

If model listed (WS-55511) IS CORRECT: set has 3 hidden menus:

Option Menu (hard reset of all settings to factory)
Technical Menu (Adjustments for various things)
Convergence Menu for adjusting convergence.

THESE ARE NOT ACCESSED FROM CUSTOMER MENU. Each requires Mitsubishi remote and a 4 digit code .......

So, What is your issue with the set?

I have the codes but it depends on model number and what problem with set is, reset is in Option menu but will not cure all problems.

Ws-55511 green light changed caps. where is pico fuse located ?

There are at least two pico fuses in the DM unit along with the caps; DM is large metal box on left as you look from behind.

Blinking green light that does not stop means problem is in DM unit that is not booting up.

If you have questions let me know.

I have a mitsubishi model WS-55511. The green light keeps blinking. Have reset by unpluging and then pluging back in and holding the reset but for 5 seconds and press the power button. worked once, but...

TWO possible reasons for the blinking light:

1. The DM unit (caps and or fuses) are bad---no longer made and only (to my knowledge) PTS electronics repairs/rebuilds them.

2. Less likely but Possible: remove front speaker grill and inspection plate behind it----locate the two bundles of wires from front keyboard on set and follow them down and to the right---unplug both plugs and plug set in and wait 70 plus seconds and try to turn set on with Mitsubishi remote.

The blinking light is the DM trying to boot up--if set works with front keyboard unplugged---the tiny reset switch on it is bad.

If set does NOT work that way DM UNIT IS BAD.

Where is DM board on WS-55511

As you look from the back of the set it is inside the large metal box on the far left of the set. Several plugs and a few screws and it (the entire box pulls out-it is plugged into a large set of sockets.

Before you remove it let me know what problem you have.

If this told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Relay Connector on Mitsubishi TV

IF IT IS A WS-55511 what you are reading is with the speaker grill removed--there will be one or two sets of wires coming from the front keyboard--before you remove the entire screen assembly you need to follow them to the right and unplug both plugs.

The screen assembly will have about 5 screws at the bottom edge--with both plugs free and the screws removed you pull up and lift the screen about 4 inches and pull it off--if you have questions ask before you attempt to remove the screen unit--tell me also why you want to remove it.

If this has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Ws-55511 replaced all 7 caps in the dm, still wont power on

I have seen this only 2 times----you may be able to unsolder and remove the reset micro switch---you have to remove the whole screen to get at it---the micro switch board may not be available---the switches can be tested with a ohmmeter set to high end and of course should not have a reading across them--I bet the reset switch is bad--you can remove it and put the keyboard back---most of the Mitsubishi sets use the same type of switches--Only other thing is leave the keyboard disconnected and just use the remote.

Glad you found the problem.
