Question about Craftsman 48" Cut Riding Lawn Mower Deck Belt 174368

1 Answer

The belt that comes from the engine to mower deck keeps breaking. I've owned the mower for years and I have to buy atleast 12 belts per year. The problen is really bad now. A belt per cutting. I've raised the deck, tightened and loosened the tention, sharpened blades, changed to B v-bets to A, nothing seems to work. Changing the sise to a smaller width helped for a while. I had a service man come out my first month. He said the mower is fine. Claimed cutting to deep has to be the problem and left. I used a Ford 12 hp mower since high school 25 years ago..........no problems with it. Thought I should buy a new one because the old one looked rusty.... big mistake buying Craftsman.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but all the the lawn & garden tractor labels get their parts from the same few places. They just paint them a different color.

I own a Craftsman rider, DTY 4000, 25 HP Kohler, 48" cut, 137 Hrs. It eats a belt about every mowing or two. Did all the stuff you did. Good luck from Sears. Had cousin who is owns a lawn & garden repair business look at it today. Says the prob. is this - The drive belt pulley (elec clutch) has too a narrow "V" and the angle of wear between it and the deck when the deck is in the lowered (mowing) position is too severe. If you notice with the deck in the fully raised position the pulleys line up perfectly. Then drop your deck and see how tightly bent the belt is downward and it makes sense as to why(my) belt would first roll over then break in a few minutes. The elec clutch pulley is sold as one unit PT No. 179334 $250.00, but I'm sure it would come with the same narrow V pulley. Waiting for word from my cousin. My last Sears Mower. Cannot even sell it in good faith.

Snapper NXT236 keeps twisting and breaking mower deck belts

check for failing cutter shaft bearings , misalignment of pulleys , incorrect belt tension, wrong section belts in use
breaking belts is an indication of the belt going around a pulley and flexing against the belt fabric structure ( bending backwards as opposed to running properly in the groove) which indicates that the tension pulley is on the wrong position on the belt

I have a huskee lt 4200. I keep buying deck belts for it but it keeps eating them up. The tensioner pulley is engaging but the belt flaps around real bad. Ive replaced cable. Caint figure it out.

Clay it may be time to replace the pulleys, including the engine pulley, check all bearings and blade spindles for wear and free movement and if the tensioner is on an arm lube the arm so it move freely.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

We have purchased brand new john Deere, troy bilt and some other brand (I can't remember) lawn tractors over the last 5 years and they all go through about 3-5 belts from May to September. Each belt is...

What comes to mind is that the belts are being overly stressed on the new equipment. I can't imagine going through so many belts per season. Are the belts breaking or stretching? What are you mowing, High grass, weeds, and at what engine speed ? How low is the mower deck set? What tractor speed is used. Does the top of the deck become clogged with excessive amounts of clippings? Does the mower bog down and strain? These are all factors that can shorten the life of a belt.

I need a belt diagram on a sentinel 12 hp riding mower

Are you still looking for that belt diagram..? Is this for the motor to trans (which is pretty simple) or the belt to the deck..? Couldn't find a diagram so hope my drawing comes out right.. This is for the deck belt routing..!!!
Left pulley (O\ /O) Right pulley
. Tension \ \@/ / Pulley
. Engine \ @ / Pulley
Front of mower here. Main thing is, you take the belt from BETWEEN the right & left pulleys, pull it down and around the tension pulley..

My john deere lt 133 mower with a double blade mulching deck, 1 blade stopped working and only 1 blade cuts now, how do i fix this. Thanks Patrick

This model mulching deck uses a flat/ribbed serpentine belt that is set at very high tension. When belt breaks under the cover only one blade will turn due to IT being driven from PTO clutch as the other blade being turned from serpentine belt. This deck was Deere's first and last shot at making a true mulching deck and only made it a couple years. When you buy the VERY expensive belt it will come with detailed instructions on how to install it.Goog luck.

Husqvarna gth main belt keeps breaking

Make sure the mower rake angle is not too much,On level floor point one of the blades in a front rear orientation, measure height of blade from floor the front measurement should be no more than 1/4" lower than the rear measurement. If the front of the mower is too low the angle the belt has to run is too much and the belt will twist and wear rap[idly. To raise the front of the deck there are either one or two adjustment rods that attach the front of mower deck to frame tighten this adjustment up to raise the front of mower deck.

Deck Belt keeps coming off

I assume you mean the engine pulley by "front pulley"? Is the belt guide still in place? It bolts to the side of the frame and runs out to the engine pulley to hold the belt on when it's disengaged. Sound like your's may be missing/broken off

Cub cadet model LT1045 belt coming off the pulley for cutting deck?

FINAL SOLUTION TO FIX THE BELT FROM COMING OFF LT1045 WHILE MOWING!

I also had this issue with my LT1045 belt. However, I just figured out how to finally fix / re-engineer my LT1045 Cub Cadet from having issues with the belt coming off of the deck while mowing.

Taking it back into a shop for repairs will not work, the belt will just come off again the first time you mow. I am making a YouTube Video to help others like me with this mower issue and will post a link here soon showing how to fix this design flaw.

It took me about an hour to fix but I've got it working now with no problems, minimum vibrations and belt is running cool now! I've gone for 2 months with no problems now. Check back soon for the link!! I expect I will have the video tutorial finished within a week!!

How do you replace the mower belt on a cub cadet?

check the alignment of the ideler pully to make sure it is even withe the drive pulleys. if not in line it will cause the belt to break. There is a spacer that is on the idler that should be on top and not on the bottom of the pully.
