24 h.p. briggs, dies after 20 minutes mowing, and after 1o minutes or so it will start back with help from the choke.I have replaced the fuel filter, plugs, air filter. To me it sounds like it just runs out of fuel.Dont know if it is the fuel pump or the coil or coils breaking down.

Sound definetly like the coil is breaking down.

IS THERE ANY WAY OF TESTING TO SEE IF IT IS THE COIL OTHER THAN HOLDING THE PLUG WIRE IN HAND AND SEEING IF IT KNOCKS YOU TO YOUR KNEES

Actually no....whats happening is the winding of the coild are heating up and seperating and losing contact...they cool alil and make contact again.

I'd bet money on a coil replacement fixing your problem.

Why BRIGGS and STRATTON 7.0hp ohv starts to die out when I start to spray it works for a min then sharts choking?

How old is the engine? Could be a dirty carburetor, stuck choke, clogged fuel filter or bad gas. Put a bottle of carburetor cleaner into the gas tank, start it up and let it run at idle for 5 minutes and then try to put load on the engine.

Hi, I have a John Deere Z225 with an 18.5 Briggs

Although, this does sound like a fuel issue due to past experiences I want to say the problem might not be fuel at all, but before we go that route try one thing. On that particular model I believe the gas cap is vented, if so try running it till it acts up, then remove the gas cap for a moment and see if the engine returns to running normal, if not I believe your coil is going out. I have seen alot of these engines recently where the works fine but when the get hot they quit functioning all together or only function part of time which in your case would indicate why it is missing and fowling the plug. When these tend to do this after they cool back down they function properly again until they get heated up again. I hope this helps you.

Carb. needs to be rebuilt. If your choking the engine it to keep the alive and you've cleaned and replaced everything else, I would recommend carb. overhaul.

I have a 7 year-old craftsman mower with a 22 HP Briggs engine that has the same issue. After about an hour, the mower acts as if it is starving for fuel and then stalls. Then after about 5 minutes of sitting, it will run for a little while longer.
If your engine is similar to mine, then its carb has a fuel shut off solenoid which shuts off fuel to the Main Jet when Voltage is removed to prevent backfiring when the key is shut off.
Unfortunately, this solenoid can also cause the carb to starve for fuel when not working properly. In my case, when I cleaned the solenoid and the solenoid's connections, the tractor had no problem after that.

Hope that helps,
Steve

Poulan Pro model 185H42ST dies after 30-45 minutes mowing

Put a carb kit in it. If that does not work replace the gas cap they are supposed to breath and if they get clogged it will create a vacuum in the tank starving the engine for fuel.

If the choke has an adjustment point, then adjust the choke to a good overall working powerband. If it still doesn't act correctly, look for vacuum leaks. If it is an option, you may want to install a manually operated choke lever.
