Wont get cold

Power on unit will run for five minutes then cycle off for 20 min , never get cold. thermostat set for max cool. the thermostat will "click" whem the compressor is running but have no "click" when the compressor is not running. The thermostat also has some kind of bare copper wire running down to the compressor area. ??? I noticed that there are two output connectors on the thermostat, the one it was connected to has no power when the unit has cycled off and thats probably why it does not get cold. I switched the output to the other connector and the thermostat does not seem to work but the unit will get very cold. Do I need a new thermostat? and what is that wire running to the compressor area? I also noticed that the fan is not turning when I open the door. fritz_curtis@msn.com

What are the two red led lights on a skybox circuit board for? Mine are lit up and the unit won't cool. Is that an indication of what is wrong? If so, any idea what it is?

The red lights on the board indicate it is working properly. The purpose of the board is to control the dispensing of the beverages, and has nothing to do with the cooling process. You have a cold control (thermostat) inside the refrigerated area. The cold control is like a switch that sends 120vac to the compressor when cooling is needed. The failure of the unit to cool would be either a bad cold control, compressor, or compressor start relay. Testing of live electrical circuits should be left to a qualified service technician.

Box just willl not cool, but it has power

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

My maytag skybox does not cool very well even when turned all the way to high.

1) your box may be low on freon,
2) fault thermostat may cause unit run non stop,
causing evaporator to ice up and blocking air
circulation,
3) Dirt condensor thus reducing operation efficiency.

Check the simplest problem first - make sure condensor
coil is clean. if not, use a vacuum cleaner to clean condensor.

For # 2 is more likely if the evaporator has a fan.
If it has, check to see if it runs; it is behind the back panel inside box.
While at that, see if evaporator coil iced up. If it is defrost using hot water and turn it on setting thermostat to normal temp. setting.
If it work fine and later develops same problem, replace thermostat.

If the above 2 solutions don't solve the problem, call a technician to check freon.

Compressor/unit runs constantly but does not cool.

is it keeping the inside contents cold and or frozen, if not possibly condenser coil needs cleaning, also if its in a very warm place and you have no problems other than that its just trying to keep things cool and has to run longer to do so

Compressor runs constantly, fridge cools, but not as cold as new

If unit is running constantly, and not nearly as cold as it used to be, most likely a freon leak. Possibly a partially frozen over evap too. If evap is mostly clear except for about 5% of it, most probably a freon leak. Changing controls will probably not fix anything. Need to look into this a little deeper.

Good Luck and hope this gets it done for you.

Cans are not cold enough

Try just unplugging the unit and leave the door open for 24 hours. Your problem is sometimes caused by a heavy frost and ice build up on the evaporator plate behind the dispensing unit. After 24 hours, plug the unit back in, reset the thermostat to the 11:00 position and close the door. I hope this helps.

Skybox is freezing and making a humming noice.

The temperature in the SkyBox is controlled by the thermostat located within the beverage compartment. If set too high, product can feeze. In addition ice will build up behind the dispenser assembly. The ice buildup can eventually make contact with the circulating fan blade and cause a constant noise.
You should hear the compressor stop running as you turn down the cold control, but prior to reaching the "off" position. Select a lower setting for the cold control, and unplug the unit for 24 hours with door open to thaw out the ice build up. Reconnect power to resume normal operation.

Not cold enough. Unit worked fine before i moved it.

Place a thermometer in your unit and get a good temperature reading for the current temperature. Unplug your unit and take the cover off the thermostat and remove the knob. Take the nut holding the thermostat to the plastic holder off. Thermostats vary but somewhere on the thermostat there will be a small screw or possibly allen socket. I forget which way I turned mine but turn the screw about a half a turn and then close the unit up and check the temperature again (overnight preferably). If it went in the right direction you're in good shape. If not, turn it back the same distance past the first setting and check it again. This resets the operating range of your thermostat.

For the soda name tags, I pulled logos off the internet and printed them the correct size on 20-pound paper. Different paper gives different translucence, so you might have to experiment to get the right amount of light coming through.
PS: thanks for the part no. on the relay
