Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a HP dv9000 laptop computer and the dvd drive doesn't work. I tried uninstalling the driver and the drive and reinstalling but doesn't work. The drive does not show up in the cmos or in system devices. I also tried removing the upper and lower filters in the registry but to no avail. Do you have any suggestions? If the drive is defective how could I tell? Thanks, Colin

For that you need to remove drive from laptop. You can pull it but before that you have to open it's lock system there. Then you can pull it. Then refix it then if it will working fine then you can see it in bios. If you can see driver of cd rom in device manager then it means that drive is working then only issue with os or registry settings. So if you repair your windows it will work again. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

My Toshiba Satellite laptop computer doesn't play the DVD in the DVD driver nor does it have the D: drive icon in My computer

The DVD drive is not installed or was uninstalled due to faulty driver installed. So you need to open the control panels, open the device manager and check the DVD drive or the drivers.
If this is not seen then reinstall the drivers. If not the hardware has errors and needs to be replaced.

I have a new HP - Pavilion dv7-3112sa Refurbished Laptop. The Disk drive is not playing DVDs or CD ROMs. It will play audio CDs fine but when I put in a DVD or CD ROM it just buzzes but does nothing.

It sounds like the drive may be bad. You may want to try getting any updates that may be available from the manufacturer. Also if it does not work you could try reinstalling the drive.
To do this go to start > right click on my computer or computer > select properties > click on the hardware tab > then select device manager > within the device manager look for DVD/CD-ROM drives > click the plus symbol on left > double click the cd dvd drive > this will open the dvd properties within here click the Driver tab on the top of screen > then click uninstall button. > Once uninstall ed restart computer. When the computer is loading back up it will reinstall the dvd drivers.
If this does not resolve the issue contact the PC manufacturer.

Go to HP's support website, find your laptop, and get the missing driver, or find out what brand your cd/dvd drive is and go to the manufacturers website to get the driver. I hope this helps!

HP CD/DVD optical drive is not recognized

I found that there was a firmware conflict caused by the installation of iTUNES. I uninstalled and cleared the upper and lower filters in the registry and the internal DVD-Rom is recognized. First I cleared the registry and the drive was recognized after a hard boot. So Far no twitches. Knock on wood.
