Cd-rom in my daughter's laptop has stopped working. i have an identical laptop and swapped out the cd-rom drives but still does not work. I'm trying to download the drivers for the cd-rom drive but can't...

Hi,

I believe we need drivers for CD ROM if both laptop are of same models. Can you plese insert the faulty CD ROM to your laptop and verify whether it is working or not. If yes, then you'll have take your daughter's laptop to service center. Could be a problem with mother board.

Please come back and give ratings to my solution if this turns to be helpful for you or also if you need more clarification.
Thnx

Missing drivers

You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers: -

Cd-rom will not work

Hello Mike,

My name is ArmyMason. IF you are getting driver requests for you CD-ROM, its because the CD_ROM Drive is broken. I would suggest taking the CD-ROM out and replacing it with a different one to verify my solution. See CD-ROMs should ask for drivers, they should automatically be detected by the Operating System, Driver request for such devices are a normal sign that the device is broken.

Thanks,
ArmyMason

My laptop will not make any sound.

HI,
yeah you are correct. Re-install the sound drivers and try playing. Make sure that the sound driver supports your Operating System. or else Go to START and click on RUN, there type "devmgmt.msc". Cross check whether the sound drivers are installed or not. If it is not installed then Right click on Sound controllers and click update drivers and follow the streps. Before doing this make sure you insert the driver cd in your cd rom. Thank you

I have an Averatec laptop, series 2300. While I was using it, it just shut down (immediate shut down) and wouldn't boot up again. I have removed battery, Let it charge overnight, and twice it has come...

Are you just running it from the battery? It sounds like you may have a motherboard problem. I would first put in my OS boot cd and see if it boots from the CD. Let me know if you don't know how to boot from CD. If it does boot from cd then run a chkdsk /r on your hard drive.
If that doesn't fix it I would see if the power supply is not working again are you running from the battery without power supply?
Thanks,
Henry

Toshiba A305-6825 laptop prolem (no visible CD/DVD Rom drive). In Device Manager: HL-DT-ST dvdram gsa-t40F ATA device error. Media test failure. There appears to be CD/DVD combo drive firmware...

You seem to be onto things (though your problem classification was generic instead of for your Toshiba model A305.) Install all the updated drivers for your laptop from the laptop's support site (Toshiba's, that is) so you can use your drive. Drives fail sometimes, and you could try sticking an old movie or something in there instead of nothing, but it is likely it is just the missing driver.

I have an advent laptop and the cd rom does not play any cds or dvds anymore. i have checked the device manager and it came up with the following message Windows cannot load the device driver for this...

you need to reinstall the driver for your rom, which is wierd...it may just require generic drivers off the windows cd, or you may have to download drivers from the manufacturers' website.
