The different is ISO images. You can also play video files from computer.. all you need is to find software e.g Nero Burning ROM to convert and burning video files that you need into DVD.

For your information not all DVD Video format can be play in computer too.. depend on Region Code it use.

How do I connect the wireing

The VCR portion is connected to yhe TV via yellow-end cable(video) from "video out" to TVs "video in" and red and white-end cables(audio) from "audio out" to TVs "audio in". The DVD plays via HDMI cable from "HDMI out" to TVs HDMI in. S-video cable can be used if no HDMI terminal is available on TV. External tuner in (cable TV, Satellite) is connected to the video and audio in terminals or better yet if S-video out is available on the tuner box.

HI,
IN THREE WAYS
1. FROM DVD'S OR CABLE BOX'S HDMI OUT PUT TO ANY OF TVS HDMI IN PUT VIA HDMI CABLE ( FOR THIS BOTH SHOULD HAVE HDMI CONNECTIVITY )
2 DVD'S OR CABLE BOX'S COMPONENT VIDEO OUT TO TVS COMPONENT VIDEO INPUT VIA COMPONENT VIDEO CABLE ( NORMALLY COMES IN THREE COLOUR ). ALSO CONNECT AUDIO USING A TWO RCA CABLE.
3 . AND ALSO THROUGH COMPOSITE VIDEO CONNECTION.
SELECTION FOR THE TWO DEPENDS ON U. ACCORDING TO UR REQUIREMENT.

I bought a DVD in Germany and live in Chile. I want to copy it from my Laptop to give it as a gift and can't. It is a Deutsche Grammophone recording and it also says: DEAG, Unitel Classica.

This is not a technical issue, DVD have a primitive form of DRM (Digital Rights Managment) that prevents dvd's from a zone be played in other zone players, there is also the problem of TV encoding wich is NTSC in chile and most of america and PAL in germany and most of europe. You need special softwer that is able to both rip (to get the video out of the dvd in a computer file) and then reencode that video in a suitable format for local dvd players and tvs.

Why can't we get the sound to work by hooking the DVD player directly to the tv?

The JVC system is designed to output audio only via the speaker terminals at the rear of the system. There is NO provision to send audio directly to the TV from the system.

Page 14 of the manual (link provided below - free to download) details the connections available to a TV. These connections are limited to three types of connections: 1) "Video" for standard TVs which is "good" 2) "S-Video" for TVs that have an S-Video input jack which is "better" (both #1 and #2 are considered "composite" types).

The third type is called "Component" which is used for TV's that are capable of "progressive scan" video input which is "best" for the system. Notice that the jacks on the DVD player are labeled "Y", "Pb" and "Pr", not "Video", "Left" and "Right". This type video signal requires the use of three cables - they do not send audio as you may be used to see on all but the newer TVs. TVs capable of displaying "progressive scan" video have a better looking picture when using these jacks. Incorrectly connecting the video from the DVD to the TV audio inputs (Left & Right) will likely result in noise or hiss from the TV speaker.

To recap - audio can only be played through the JVC system's speakers. Use the highest quality video jacks that BOTH your TV and the DVD player supports.

I hope this was Very Helpful and enjoy your DVD and TV!
