If your router isn't secure get one that is.Some routers are not secure. They rely on the user to secure the router's security codes. All routers come with a disc if it didn't it's a mickey mouse router.Install the disc again if you didn't do it before.Your PC should recognise it.Some operating systems don't recognise the router.Go to hardware in the control panel Where it says install a device click on it.Windows will check to see if a driver is available for your router.Go to the manufacturers website and download the driver for your particular router.IT will come up with boxes and you put in the model and serial number and it will search it's database for your driver.Good Luck.

THIS 2WIRE951 KEEP ON BREAKING INTO MY COMPUTER HOW DO I STOP THEM

This is the CAR AND TRUCK section. What you are reporting sounds like an issue with your Wireless Internet Router. If you have your Router "Wide Open", then anyone within 100 feet of your house may be able to connect to your Internet. You need to log into your Router and setup a password and security type. I recommend using WPA-PSK security. It should be an option on the Router. Once you set the Security Type and set a password or key, your neighbors will no longer be able to use your Internet.

How do I prevent my neighbor from using my wireless router?

If you do not have any wireless network security enabled on the router, your neighbor can see this SSID and connect to the network without authorization. While this is generally frowned upon as being unethical, it is technically not illegal as you have "made the network available" by failing to secure it. The easiest way to secure the network is through the use of a WEP key or a WPA pass-phrase. WEP keys are generally 5, 10, 13 or 26 randomly generated characters long. WPA pass-phrases are just that - a phrase such as "The sun is yellow". Either method will prevent unauthorized users from accessing your network. Only those individuals who possess the key or pass-phrase are granted access.

These options is located under the Wireless > Wireless Security tabs from within the router administration. After login you can change the password.

Here's how you can put a password for your Linksys WRT300N Wireless Router

1. Open your browser (IE, Firefox, or Chrome)
2. Type 192.168.1.1
3. Type these credentials
•un: admin
•pw: admin
4. On the Linksys Homepage, click on the "Wireless" Tab on top.
5. Click on "Basic Wireless Settings" just underneath the "Wireless" Tab
6. Rename your Network Name (SSID) to your desired name.
6.1. Click Save Settings
7. Click on "Wireless Security" (on top, beside "basic wireless settings")
8. Change your security mode from "disabled" to "WEP2 Personal"
(sub options should appear after)
9. On the Pre-Shared Key box, type in the password that you want to create for your wireless network.
(make sure you write this down and keep a copy in case you forget your password)
10. Click Save Settings.

Your done. No more free internet for your neighbors.

Hope this helps.

How do I go back and set up a security password so the neighbors can't use my wireless service? Router has been set up for years.

Go to your IP Adress (printed below your router, usually 192.168.0.1) enter the user credentials (commonly admin/password) and go to router security. If this is to complicated or you don't remember credentials, reset the router or tell the neighbors that you will sue them

My wireless router keeps losing internet signal and kicking me off the internet. I have to reset the router at least once every 30 minutes. Is this a router problem or a problem with my internet provider?...

I suggest that you try a higher channel, like 11. The neighbors thing is the wireless security portion.
Here are the steps that I think are important:

Wireless Router settings:

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, which you can get from the manufacturers' website, usually for free, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below:

To get access, start your browser, and put 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, or other address for your unit, into the ADDRESS bar (not search box) of your Internet Browser. Every unit has unique access login and passwords, some are admin with no password, some are admin and admin...seek access information from the website of the manufacturer of your unit. Look under support, downloads, drivers or similar sounding areas.

Things to set:

(Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page before you leave it, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes. SAVE OFTEN.)

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is typically NOT the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID (descriptive name is easier to find when you need to connect wirelessly).

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping this information to bottom of the router. (Physical access is usually not the security issue.)

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

5. Change the channel of the wireless to 11, and avoid conflict with landline cordless phones. (Big issue, even the neighbors can interrupt).

There are more secure settings available, all the way down to only allowing certain MAC addresses to have access. A MAC address is a digit unique to each and every network card. Like a fingerprint. Most users do not set mac address limits.

What do i need to connect my sylvania netbook to wireless internet if i do not have cable or phone line?

You'll need satellite internet and a wireless router, or a generous neighbor with a wireless router who will trust you with his wireless security password.

How do I secure my router so others cannot use my

ok.. fist things first

you need the manual for your unit, find it here

in your manual you need to find the details of the following steps

1. power your router and plug your computer to one of the lan (1,2,3, 4) plugs

2. you need to open a firefox or internet explorer and type the address for your router 192.168.0.1

3. enter user name: admin and leave password blank

4. now go to wireless settings

5. for your ssid give it a unique name that will describe your network (router name) like KornhoNetwork or something like that.

6. in security mode select one of this three (from weakest to strongest), WEP, WPA, WPA2 ( i suggest wpa2 but if you have old wireless devices tehy may not support it)

7. for cypher mode select TKIP

8. for psk/eap select PSK

9. enter a passphrase (something that you only know) you need to know this key so it needs to be configured in all your client devices that are going to use your router (this is what will keep your neighbors guessing forever)

10. confirmed the phrase

11. save the settings

keep this configuration handy as you need to configure the same parameters on your wireless devices.

it's also good to set a password for your router otherwise someone else can simply enter in your router's configration page just like you did and make some changes, unlikely but it can be done so also change the blank password for a password that only you know..

if something does not work as expected. you can always reset your password to make it the way it was. look your manual under resetting password to factory defaults

that should do it!

good luck.. it's for those neighbors to get their own internet!!
