Whats wrong with my projector?

Hi, i turned my projector on as normal today and usually when i press the power to my sky box on the image comes on straight away. now however i just get the blue screen with a no input message. then the projector power ight goes to red even though its still on. at this point no remote control functions work, and the only thing i can do is turn it off at source. could the bulb need replacing? im not sure as it still projects the blue screen. any ideas?

i had a spare bulb so i thought i may as well try it. it turned out it was the problem after all, however it gave very confusing symptoms for a mere bulb failure! thanks marie for your suggestion, but im glad i didnt start messing around with it too much!!

Hi Trezza

No this is absolutely NOT a lamp issue.

Take of the top cover and switch on the machine - check that all the fans are working.

If they are all running , this might be a faulty Mainboard.

If you can't spot anything wrong yourself , rather take it to a repairer for a proper inspection.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya !

    Hi Trezza

Yes the sympoms you gave does not match that of a faulty lamp at all , but I'm glad you resolved the problem yourself without having to spend a load of money on repairs.

The image is very dim, even on maximum brightness. We are considering replacing the bulb, but bulbs for this projector are very expensive and we suspect that since there is some image, the bulb is not the...

Yes, as bulbs age they will begin losing brightness. Most projectors have a bulb life hour clock, that measures the number of hours a bulb has been used. Usually you can pull that up within the menu of the projector. Also that particular model has what is called "Eco-Mode" and when engaged dims the bulb by 25% to cut down on power consumption.

Typical life for a lamp in that projector is:

3000 hours on Normal mode
6000 hours on Eco mode

You can expect a brightness loss of 50% when you are approaching end of a lamps life.

HOW TO USE DAYLIGHT PROJECTOR IN STEP BY STEP

Hi LCD projectors have revolutionized the audiovisual industry. With a few clicks of the mouse and strokes of the keyboard, whatever you type on your computer appears instantly on a projection screen in real time. If you have never experimented with an LCD projector, however, do not worry. You can learn how to use an LCD projector.

  • Plug the LCD projector in to a power outlet. Completely plug the power cord in to the back of the LCD projector.
  • Step 2Use a VGA cable (usually a 15-pin male to male) to connect your computer to the LCD projector. Insert one end of the cable into the VGA connector (sometimes this connector is blue) in the back of your computer and do the same in the back of your LCD projector. If the LCD projector has more than one VGA connector, choose the one that says something like "line in" or "in from computer."
  • Step 3Power on your laptop. Turn on the LCD projector. It may take a couple of minutes to warm up. Open the computer file or document you wish to display. When you are ready to project your image, press "Function" (Fn) plus "F8." This combination of keys sends your computer's display to the LCD projector.

Computer used to work with projector, and now doesn't?

Have you tried pressing Fn F5? On my system (HP), by computer monitor goes dark when I connect the projector. Pressing (Function) FN F5 toggles the video between Computer Monitor, Projector, or Both.
Check the function settings for your computer. On my Compaq laptop at home, the video function is F4, so there may be different settings for your computer.
    Good luck!

Panasonic PT-L701e - colour fault, blacks are blue with lines

Can you connect a computer (vga) signal to this projector? I'd like to know what your "white" computer screen does on the projector....example, Excel spreadsheet....

I am leaning towards these problems, a bad video card...or worse delamination of one of your LCD panels and possible polarizer burn in the optical engine.

    Blur Image

    Hi there

If it is a DLP Projector it could be the Packlight Pipe Module that needs repairs.

Basically this part has 4 small mirrors facing each other and this normally happens when one of the mirrors come loose.

    Very cheap to repair
