Why does water leak out of bottom of iron base unit when ironing .could it be the filter unit ?

Probably not the filter.

If it is a new iron and the drops of water are excessive I would suspect it is faulty.

If the iron is well-used I would suspect it has a scale problem where localised scale build up is preventing some of the water from closely contacting the heated metal and turning to steam. This could be particularly true if you live in a hard water area.

Steam irons originally soon caused problems unless distilled or de-ionised water was used. It is reckoned modern irons can use tap water but hard water can still cause trouble.
A descaler additive might help but I haven't had good results in the past...

How to clean inside the iron

Mix dip-it and water and fill the iron, turn to high and then over a sink, unplugged, leave all the steam out. Dip-it is the coffee pot cleaner found in the grocery store, it's a powder. Desolve it water before putting it in the iron. I would guess you have some rust coming out when you use it? Give it a try.

Clean iron?

Hello tcant....
  • 1 Fill the iron's steam receptacle with white vinegar or CLR, a product used to clean coffee pots. CLR is available in department stores.

  • 2 Plug in and set the iron to its steam setting.
  • 3 Operate as usual. When the vinegar or CLR begins to steam, operate the iron as you would normally. Press it over an old, clean towel as the vinegar or CLR loosens sediment and dirt from the appliance.
  • 4 Continue ironing until all of the cleaning solution has steamed out. Repeat the cleaning process if necessary until the iron no longer oozes discolored liquid and the ironing surface is clean.
  • 5 Fill the iron steamer receptacle with distilled water and set the appliance to steam.
  • 6 Continue steaming until the smell of vinegar or CLR is gone.
  • 7 Prevent future mineral buildup by using distilled water for steam in your iron, rather than tap water. Joe. Thanks for choosing Fixya!

    Cleaning a Rowenta steam iron

According to the manual, you should use regular tap water as long as it is not above 12 grains of hardness. Never use 100% pure distilled water, Rowenta recommends using inexpensive bottled spring water.

Why does my Tefal Pro express stain my ironing with brown marks and scale, I fill the tank with softened household water, but I still get a sudden gush of brown scale water. We live in a very hard water...

Its a real pain, but use only distilled water.

Fill your iron with white vinegar and let it steam until empty.. face down on a towel on lowest steam setting.

    My irons leaks

    Hi
You obviously live in a hard water area and use the iron a lot.
Try using distilled water only. You can get this from motorists shops, they use it for topping up batteries.
    please leave feedback

Iron no longer has steam function

If you are using tap water then the hardness of the water could cause the problem. You can usually fix this buy running vinegar water through the iron once or twice like you would a coffee pot.
If you have been using distilled water then you probably need to replace the iron.
