Question about Intermatic & Indoor/Outdoor Rain Tight Timer

1 Answer

I have a DPST T103R Timer for my sprinkler system. With the continuous power surges in Florida it is off a day and a half. I want to reset it but the "How to set direction sheet" on the inside door is totally bleached from black to a light grade impossible to read. Can you e-mail me a copy of the instructions. Thank you

Here is the instruction manual:

Basically, pull the yellow dial out, turn the dial until it indicates the correct time at the pointer and push the dial back in.

System quit watering. Tried man/adv and won't energize sprinkler valves. I can operate sprinkler valves manually. Tried unplugging power source to reset. Any suggestions?

Most sprinkler valves run on electricity from the timer. If the time doesn't send electricity out, the valves don't open. If an animal has chewed through a wire, that valve won't open.
You can take a meter and check the voltage on the wire at the timer. If nothing, replace timer.
If you get correct voltage at timer, measure at valve. if voltage good there, replace valve.

If your Orbit system is 8-10 years old, the timer may be worn out. This is especially likely if the timer is electromechanical rather than digital.

Raindrip water timer instructions

Copy following link for links to all sprinkler timer manuals, including raindrip:
Sprinkler timers generally have 1 year limited warranty.
Always reset digital timers to help restore functionality.
Simple power outage can cause digital timers to malfunction, or fail.
Add surge protection to timer circuit.

Hunter pro C will not allow all zones to water.

The fact that you are getting no error message indicates that programming is not right, or there is electrical short between timer and sprinkler solenoid:

With all digital timers, it is important to clear memory before starting, and then double-check there are no conflicts in programming.
Page 22-23 of the manual has quick-check procedure for identifying shorts that would cause problems.
Check outlet with circuit analyzer to check for correct polarity and grounding.
Google search Hunter Pro C manual to download searchable pdf manual
Keep in mind also that digital timers are susceptible to line noise, and power surge. Simple power outage can disable digital timer. There are no replacement parts.
That's why I recommend good old fashion 14-day repeat-cycle mechanical sprinkler timer with fewer features, but replaceable parts.
For example T8845PV with 24Volt ac output

Toro Visiion Sprinkler Controller Troubleshooting

There are two Toro timer manuals posted:
Copy following links, for ez word search for each manual:

The timer can be reset to factory defaults by 'clearing program memory' following steps in manual.
Warranty period is 1 year protection against defects in workmanship, which is standard for timers from Woods to Intermatic to GE etc.

If the display is not working, and zone does not show, then that implies internal defect, or lack of power. Resetting timer might repair problem.
The timer has electro-magnetic relays, and not an internal solenoid.
The timer turns ON or turns OFF electric power to the water valves.
Water valves have solenoids that open and close when power from timer arrives at each zone.
The solenoid can make the sound you describe, but the timer relays with make small click sound as the electromagnetic relay opens and closes.

In addition to resetting timer to factory defaults, and then reprogramming you might try changing wires to different terminals.

Also the timer works on 24Volt AC transformer that plugs into outlet. It is possible to get display errors on timers when voltage is incorrect, or outlet and transformer are not connected well. Test outlet with circuit analyzer. Change outlet because outdoor outlets get corroded. Clean blades on transformer plug.

Power surge and other events can damage timers. Nearby lightning strike. Power outage causes surge when power resumes.

There is 24-hour backup battery, but the battery does not appear to be replaceable type and instead is rechargeable or capacitor type backup. So the battery is probably not the problem

The timer stopped working, so the system is only working on manual mode. what could be the issue?

If timer dial is not rotating, then check for power to timer.
If timer has power, and dial is not rotating, then replace clock motor.
If trippers are worn down, then replace trippers.

I have Intermatic sprinkler model T8845pv. I want to set it for daily watering in only one of 8 zones. When I remove the gold pins in the main dial and locate the zone I want to water, it waters the...

Intermatic sprinkler timers are 24 hour repeat cycle, with day-skipper option.
The timer does not change zones. The timer just turns ON-and-OFF at scheduled times.
Each tripper represents 12-15 minutes of watering. And then the timer circuit turns OFF.
When timer circuit turns OFF, the sprinkler system is designed to advance to next zone each time.
So when the timer circuit turns OFF and then turns ON again, your sprinkler control starts watering the next zone. This is the way sprinkler systems are designed.

If you had a sprinkler system with 1 zone, or could change your sprinkler system to 1 zone on certain days, then the timer would turn that zone on-off each time.
Call a local sprinkler company and see if they have a dual control or some solution >> but sprinkler controls are outside my area of expertise. I am timer expert.

You could solve problem with two separate sprinkler systems, but that would require two timers. I have never seen a 2-channel sprinkler timer. There are electronic two-channel timers that can handle two different programming schedules with minimum 1 minute on-off, and these timers can cost a few hundred dollars up to thousands, PLUS cost of the dual sprinkler system. Add a comment and let me know if two-channel timers are something you want information on.

I have misplaced my manual for the 24-hour timer, and I want to make sure I am using the "tripper" clips appropriately: do I place one in each slot that I want the sprinkler zone to run--and...

This device is simply a 24 hour timer. It has a special enclosure classified as "Rain Tight" that helps prevent rain from entering - as water from a hose directed at it would enter the enclosure causing damage to the timer.

It is NOT a timer designed to operate a traditional pop-up sprinkler system. Those timing devices allow water to flow into the lawn sprinkler system and spray out from a certain area of sprinklers for a predetermined amount of time, then switches this area or zone off and turns on the next. This continues until all zones have watered the area where sprinklers have been installed.

The device you are asking about simply switches power on and off to one load. It can not control multiple loads - or as in your case "zones". You would install ON trippers at the time of day on the yellow time disc when the load would be ON and install OFF tripper when the load should be turned OFF. If the load were a light, you could turn this light on and off many times a day - dependent only on how many ON and OFF trippers you installed on the yellow time disc.

A sprinkler timer must be selected instead. This will allow you to select the number of days between watering, will operate many zones, control of how long the water is to remain on to each zone, detect if it has recently rained or if it is currently raining, etc. One is pictured below:

I hope this helps. If you have additional questions or comments, please provide the manufacturer's name AND the exact model number of the timer you are talking about. Good luck. Please rate my reply. Thank you.
