Mine does it too----exact same thing. I wonder if it's fuse-related. Let me know if you figure it out. Great receiver otherwise.

Onkyo mute channels. When turned on, one or more channels remain mute. Acts like a contact problem; when switched on-off-on multiple times, mute channels may vary

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

The speakers are not connected properly. Check the speaker connections. The Mute function is activated. Turn off the Mute function. The volume is turned all the way down. Turn up the volume. Neither set of speakers is selected (if unit has A/B buttons to select sets of speakers). Press either A or B to select a set of speakers. Both sets of speakers are selected, but only one set is connected (if unit has A/B buttons to select sets of speakers). Press the appropriate button to deselect the speaker outputs which are not connected. The receiver is set to TAPE MONITOR (if applicable). Turn off TAPE MONITOR mode. Headphones are plugged into the main unit. Unplug the headphones. The source selector is set to the wrong source. Select the proper source. The impedance of the speakers is less than the rating for the system. Use speakers with the correct impedance rating.

I just bought a used jvc rx9010. it powers up but no sound from any speaker and shows headphone all the time what should a layperson check???

No speakers are selected if just headphone is displayed. Press the speaker button just under the power button. No station is tuned when auto muting is displayed. Hook up an antenna to the receiver or use a different source like a cd player.

I have a phillips tv. I got a new directv remote and it won't operate my phillips tv.

your remote needs programmed. start by turning on the t.v ,then move the switch at the top of the remote to t.v , then press and hold the mute and the select together until the green light flashes twice then release the mute and select buttons then try these codes ( 11454, 10054, 10037, 10556, 10690, 11154, 11483, 11961, 10012, 10013 ). Do the codes one at a time, once you put in one code the remote t.v light should flash twice then press the power button on the remote. If your t.v shuts off then it should be programmed. If not then repeat the steps using a different code.

The only thing I can tell you for sure is that the mute indicator always flashes (very dimly) when the receiver is off.  I have no idea why, but mine has always done this.
