Question about Nikon ProStaff 550 Laser Rangefinder

Open Question

I lost the battery camber cover on my ProStaff 550 Laser Rangefinder. I contacted Nikon Inc (El Segundo, CA). They sent me the wrong cover which is a screw in type not the 1/4 turn locking type. What they sent was BKA00600-A1. Do you have the correct parts number for this item? Thank you, jimednorris@yahoo.com

I didn't find the Prostaff laser 440 rangefinder on the website for Nikon.com, but I did find the 550 model. The specs follow:
Specifications
  • Measurement Range 11-550 yds
  • Increment Reading 0.5/1 yds
  • Magnification 6x
  • Angular Field of View (Real)
  • Angular Field of View (Apparent) 34.9°
  • Viewfinder Display meters/yards
  • Eye Relief 18mm
  • Diopter Adjustment +/-4°
  • Power Source 1 CR2 Lithium Battery
  • Size (Length x Width x Height) 5.1 x 1.5 x 2.7 in
  • Weight w/o Batteries 6.3 oz
  • Objective Diameter 21mm
  • Exit Pupil 3.5mm
  • Supplied Accessories CR2 lithium battery.

I did not read that there is a recalibration for the unit, although a consumer might expect that. Has it ever been dropped to your knowledge?

Nikon ProStaff Laser 440 not working

Here is the address to send your rangefinder for repairs.
  • Nikon INC.
  • 841 Apollo St. Suite 100.
  • Elsegundo, CA 90245-4721
  • Attention: Repair Department
  • Phone (800) 645-6678.
I had the same issue with my Nikon Laser 800 rangefinder. I sent it in and they wanted $311.00 to fix it so I bought a new one for $300.00 off EBAY. Today I was missing around with my old rangefinder and noticed after I put the battery in I could hear something loose in the rangefinder. There is a little metal tang in the bottom where the battery goes that holds tension on the battery that was bent down. I bent it back up about 3/16" and put the battery back in, now it works fine.
