Question about Audio Players & Recorders

2 Answers

The problem began "spontaneously" with the CD not "reading" properly. Before this the CD was clicking as it read the track. The CD was removed & cleaned. After re-insertion the CD would not play and the "over" mark (indicating more than 17 tracks) remained red. The trouble shooting guide did not help us. Can you please suggest any further things that we can do in order to solve the problem? Thank you for your help. Jennifer

The player will not play any CD - it does not read one when inserted - the display shows it is not reading the tracks - it remains showing 00- 00 and does not indicate that there is a CD in the machine. The display shows 00- 00 and 16 tracks even with a CD in that only has 12. I cannot advance from track to track as it stays on 00 regardless of manipulation of the skip button.

Unless a buttom is stuck in the on position there is nothing you can do except replace the unit. You could have a shop diagnose this for you but noone fixes these anymore for what you can replace it for. I know this is not what you want to hear but unless someone can actually see this noone on this site is going to be able to help. Ask yourself this. Will you open up the case and start testing things if someone actully said too. And then would you order a part not knowing if it really is the problem or anther problem cause this problem. Its electronic. When one part goes out, often it destrys another part of the unit also.

Your CD may be scratched beyond repair - however this would be noticable on the readable side of the disc as obvious scratches.

Does your CD player do this same thing with other CDs? If it doesn't, then the one CD you are having issues with is no longer working and regrettably you'll need to get a new one. If you experience the same problem with several different CDs then the problem lies with your CD Player.

You need to clean your CD player, the reader heads on these often just get dirty and can no longer clearly read CDs. You can buy a special CD that you put into the player that cleans it out from many electronics stores. Here is one example on Amazon:

Finally, please post back here if cleaning does not solve your problem (indicating a hardware problem).

Your CD player will now work better!

If your shelf system is more than, say, 5 years old the symptoms you describe indicate that the player mechanism may be worn out.

KD-HDR40 will not play any CDs, only displays a "CD reading" message.

Sounds like CD mechanism failure. Did some sticker or anything went inside? Any way, need service.

My RX-V665 receiver lost its sound for no apparent reason while we were watching a show. It was in HDMI mode and has the message "Decoder Off". The sound works with a DVD and a CD, just not...

It's telling you the digital decoder is now "off" and will treat everything like 5.1. THAT is a selection you choose, not a status that spontaneously appears. Perhaps someone unknowingly touched the remote while playing.

Get the manual out and read up on DECODER. Page 61 (Troubleshooting: NO SOUND) suggests "A proper audio decoder is not selected". Try AUTO.

Or, track the digital source of your TV audio back to make sure it still works.

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in thePrograms list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
  3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
  4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
  5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
  6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
  7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

My Shanling CDT200 CD player does not spin when I put the down lid or press play. Can you please help? The problem began by first what sounded like a clicking sound & interrupted play. The player is...

This is the case in most CD Players. . .

when you close the lid, it will try to read the CD.
If it recognizes and reads the cd, the cd will spin-up.
If not, it would say no disc.

try to clean the cd-player's lens by using a commercially available lens cleaner. if it still persists, it need a new optical mechanism.

The cd player now wont read the Cd, the tracks

The clicking is the lens attempting to focus on the CD. Try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to resolve the problem, the optics will need to be replaced.

Cd does not read every time

I love Marantz! They make quality products that last and sound excellent! Most likely it a dirty lens. When a lens gets dirty, it can't read the cd as accurate. Unplug it, remove the cover, locate the cd lens take a q-tip lightly dipped in rubbing alcohol and rub it lightly on the lens (don't drip it too wet). This should help. Sometimes they also have a weak laser which can cause the same problems, but try the cleaning first.
