Best solution should be to get a tap and die and fix the threads, this is assuming that you don't want to buy the crank or pedal necessary to make the fix the expensive way. You can never go wrong with a tap and die set, they pay for themselves unless you go super cheap, which at a good hardware store is hard to do. Ask around if you need some other info...
