    This is not a touch screen model. I have already tried a system reset that did prompt me about losing all my data. It did not help the problem. Perhaps there is another kind of reset I could try? The one I followed involved holding down menu and the quit key while powering on.

    Please take a look at the following link:https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php... There are others with exactly the same fault. I would post here on the Garmin forum but I can't get an account to activate and it's the weekend with no support at Garmin until Monday. I wonder - with this not being an isolated problem - if there may indeed be a fix for it ??? Thanks

That is clearly a mainboard problem. You need to have it replaced.

Hi,

Your GPS device has gone faulty. Resetting is just a lucky fix. It is a hardware issue and the problem is that Garmin no longer support Garmin GPS Map 176C so its time to buy a new GPS device.

Good Luck!

Hello,

I suggest you reset your GPS, to reset it, follow this steps, turn off Garmin device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen, and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press “Yes” to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.
Once the Garmin GPS unit is reset, remember to place the device outside where there is a clear unobstructed view of the sky for 15 – 30 minutes in order for it to requires fix to GPS satellites. with this, your GPS will perform better.

Take care.

Gps nuvi it alays say no match found

Every Garmin Nuvi has a map info screen. check to make sure your Garmin has maps
usually that screen is
Tools;
Settings;
map;
mapinfo (at the bottom)

or
Settings;
Map and Vehicle;
My Maps;

If it is greyed out or a blank screen then your garmin is missing its maps. otherwise, make sure the maps are checked and make sure you are searching in the right area. by default the Garmin will search within 50 miles of you.

Garmin nuvi 1100 gps. Screen says no map data. Is there a default setting?

The map may have become unselected.
Press TOOLS, the spanner symbol on the page that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP
Press SETTINGS or LOCALE on some models
Press MAPS and then at the bottom of the screen press MAP INFO
Your map name should be displayed. THere should be a tick beside it. If there's no tick press the map name and it will tick. The map is now selected and should work ok.

The GPSmap 176c does not turn on. I have put in new batteries and cleaned the metal parts of the battery receptors

Do you use rechargeable batteries? The 176C seems to be extremely picky about the voltage. I had the same problem. Afer changing to non-rechargeable batteries, everything works fine again. Not great for the environment, but for my bearings.

Will not power on

Did you use rechargeable batteries? The Garmin seems to be extremely picky about enough voltage. I had good rechargeables which I use in my foto flashlights, but they did not suffice for the Gamin. Simple non-rechargeable batteries ones solved my problem. Not good for the environment, but for my bearings...
