You need to teardown the unit to put it back in. I don't recommend that if you are not a tech. This issue can happen with the years when the bushings get worn or if the carousel was forced. Contact a service center or HP they can send a tech to your home for a fee

My toner color carousel will not rotate properly. Stops between cartridges

If you take out the top unit and then press the notches down that you can see on the lid it will then spin round.

You can then change the cartridge from the back not the front

Have an HP 2820. The carousel on this will not turn. It originally had an issue where you could drop three toners in and they would place correctly until you got to the fourth and it would not drop all...

HI,
Open the top cover of printer and try to clean up the carousel motor solenoid clutch. There are one foam tape - cean or better replace it.

X4270 error 1200

Turn off power to the printer and unplug it from the back of the printer.
Insert the power cord back into the printer. You will hear some clicks and motors moving. Pull out the cord again when this happens.Open the cartridge bay by pulling the face forward and lifting the bay door up. The cartridge carousel most likely will not come to the center.By trying physically pulling the carousel to the middle (NOT BY THE RIBBON CABLE) ,if you can not pull it to the middle push it far right as possible. Listen for a click.
After pushing to the right and hearing a click you should then be able to pull the carousel towards the middle easily. Remove the ink cartridges and power up the printer again. You will receive an error along the lines of black cartridge missing. Open the bay, insert the cartridges, close the bay.Your problem is fixed.

if that doesnt help...
remove the shell from the black base, clean the goop from under the ink cartridges, put silicon on the bars after cleaning with alcohol, grease the gears sparingly, put it back together,

good luck

Have installed new epson black ink cartridge in c1100 printer. unable to press down locking bar on this new cartridge

Try re-inserting it again, L/H side should go in slightly ahead of the R/H. Give it a push & wiggle and it should lock in. An alternative method of fitting the cartridge is to open the top cover & remove the PCU. With the front cover shut you can rotate the cartridge "carousel" until the black is in the 2 O'clock poition when looking from the R/H side of the printer. You can now insert and lock the cartridge into place.

Please take a moment to rate this solution, thanks.

My message window shows error 1200. What does this mean? I cannot find a solution in my trouble shooting guide

The 1200 error is caused by a cartridge carrier stall. This can happen if:
  • The print cartridges are not snapped in correctly.
  • The encoder strip is out of place.
  • A foreign object is blocking the cartridge carrier's path.
Try this first step to correct it
Turn off power to the printer and unplug it from the back of the printer.

Insert the power cord back into the printer. You will hear some clicks and motors moving. Pull out the cord again when this happens.

Open the cartridge bay by pulling the face forward and lifting the bay door up. The cartridge carousel most likely will not come to the center.

trying physically pulling the carousel to the middle. (NOT BY THE RIBBON CABLE) If you can not pull it to the middle push it far right as possible. Listen for a click.

After pushing to the right and hearing a click you should then be able to pull the carousel towards the middle easily. Remove the ink cartridges and power up the printer again.

You will receive an error along the lines of black cartridge missing. Open the bay, insert the cartridges, close the bay. if the error still persists Could be a timing belt issue, gearing or a jam, etc.

Black replacement cartridge

This is an easy one, you do the black the same as each color cartridge. All four cartridges sit on a carousel that rotates.

Just keep pressing the button that's directly underneath the ready light until it says "rotating to black". After the machine stops rotating, open up the cover and put the black cartridge in.

Reinstalling previously used cartridge

Make sure you are trying to insert it with the carousel in the correct position. Use the printers driver to rotate the carousel to the correct position. Slide the cart in level and push it well home.

If it will not lock properly, bin the cart and replace it. If you put a cart in that does not seat right you run the risk of spreading toner all over the inside of the machine and the clean up is a bigger job than buying a new cart.

Ensure the carousel is in the right position - the tram lines the cart slides down MUST line up perfectly.

Tried what blkghost suggested above but had to tweak his advice slightly.

After pushing to the right and hearing a click you should then be able to pull the carousel towards the middle easily. Remove the ink cartridges and power up the printer again.

You will receive an error along the lines of black cartridge missing. Open the bay, insert the cartridges, close the bay.

YAY problem fixed.
