Sounds like a knackered / flat battery. Check the battery, look at the terminals and make sure the wires to the battery are connected properly. If the battery is good then check your charging circuit.

2006 HD Fatboy FLSTFI minimal throttle position misfire

I would also check for a vacuum leak (intake manifold seal) or a faulty throttle position sensor. Check the intakes first, hold the motor steady above idle and squirt some carb cleaner where the manifold connects to the head. If the motor jumps up in speed right away, you located the leak. A quick shot is all you need to check. Replace both seals at the same time.

The throttle position sensor would need to be checked with a multi-meter. If the sensor (potentiometer) does not change resistance smoothly, it can become "lost". With the engine off, you can disconnect the plug and measure the resistance across the sensor. Get a extra hand to work the throttle from idle to WOT slowly. Watch the resistance change on the meter. If the reading jumps around or goes "open" while moving the throttle, the sensor is faulty.

2003 HD Fatboy has a miss. New plugs and wires.

i take it its carb. after it warms up to operating temps does it stop the sputtering? thats just a HD CV carb doing what it does til hot. Im not talking a 2 min warm up and off u go im talking operating temps of 200 plus. Is the carb an S&S? Your going to have high rpms til the temp kicks it down if its injected

2000 Fat boy starts sputtering and lights flash on and off

Check you battery terminal connections. Can't think of any other reason that the rear light should be fluttering. If battery is tight then trace through your circuit breakers with a test light.

Hard starting

If your idle is rough even after a warm up period then I would be looking at an intake air leak followed by carburation jetting (you didn't say if you are fuel injected or not...) Air leaks are very bad. Fix it right away if you have one. To tell, get a can of WD40 and from the air breather side, with the engine running at idle, spray a bit of WD40 onto the intake manifold, one side and then the other. If the engine idle picks up it indicates an air leak and should be serviced right away (unless you are into burnt valves :)

Decrease hot idle

Your bike is carb or injected? Anyway Hd that are injected start at high RPM and after heating up the idle kicks down. You have a Temp sensor for this, which sounds like it is bad. I can not believe your bike would run at 100 rpm no way. harley runs at 950 to 1050 at an idle. It does not sound like you have a carb so Im not going to go into that fix.

It doesnt...could be a fuel problem, or even a vacuum leak. You dont say what year bike, but if its carberated, I'd check visually for a good gas stream/ check for **** in the tank...service the air cleaner as well. Check the fuel air mix and set the RPM's to 950-1000 at idle. If that doesnt do it, check the condition of all your fuel and vacuum hoses

My harley idles at 600rpm instead of 1000rpm and it has a flat spot under acceleration.I bought some bad gas awhile ago but ran a few tanks through it since.What's the problem?

Check and clean the air filter first since it's going to be the easiest to get to. Then, if the bad gas had sediments in it, you may need to clean the fuel filter and the carb. It could also be that your carb is just seating and needs adjustment. Try adjusting the idle, if you have any fluctuation or it has a high idle from time to time, then set the idle back, and pull the carb and clean it, floats, jets, etc... This is, if it's a carburated model, if injected, then you will need to run an injection system cleaner through it and have the injection system calibrated.

really need more info on bike, not much to go on. if it is fuel injected, the first culprit i would check is the temperature sensor. on start up, you need a richer mix and thus higher idle. if a carb bike, i would first check ignition timing because if something is mis-skewing and the advance is too much, it will idle higher

Engine light

O.k. I hope this goes out to all three askers with this problem. First I'm going to make a wild guess and say these are all injected systems, I'm right, wow, that amazing isn't it. This is going to be one of three things. 1- try loosening the gas cap, then starting. If this clears the light, then you will need to replace the cap, because it's not venting properly and creating a vacuum in the tank which inhibits the gas flow to the injection system. 2- Check the fuel filter, a clogged filter can cause the same thing. 3- the calibration for the injection system is off, and the system needs recalibrated. The calibration usually isn't off far enough to be able to tell a difference in the way it runs, possibly a slight mpg difference, but that's about it, and it won't cause any damage. So, if it;s the calibration, don't worry about it until it gets to a noticeable level, unless you just like to give your money to Harley. You can expect to spend about $100, as usual.

Map sensor

Hi,

Have not worked on an HD but my thoughts and additional guesses would be:
1. fuel contamination (water at bottom of tank);
2. primary pump (in my case it was inside the fuel tank & might not be present in your bike);
3. fuel lines & clamps to & from primary pump or to the carbs;
4. in line filters;
5. vacuum controlled fuel valve (oppose to the usual manual petcock)
6. if it were the MAP sensor, bike wouldn't even run a block away + idling would be rough;
7. by chance are you using a Power Commander?

Also your post "bike will start and run fine for a few blocks then die" indicates that indeed fuel got into the carbs before but not when running meaning the bike used what was inside the bowl and was not replenished.  Alternately, the fuel flow to the carbs might not be sufficient and there is a leak or a blockage somewhere.

As said might not work for your bike but has come across some of the above on numerous occasions.

Good luck and Kind regards.

Ride Safe.
