I would get a wire from the coil into the hole to eliminate that problem... see how it goes and then replace the dsefrost timer or control which ever you have as a last resort....the bimetal just shuts down the defrost it does not initiate it...

They could be part of the problem or "a" problem, however I still feel that you may have other issues...time will tell...
sometimes a crazy simple thing like that can mes with evrything...
welcome to the world of fixing things... :-)

Yesterday I did a continuity check on the defrost heater and it was good. Also, I made a
continuity test on the bi-metal terminals, and it was good, too. Is there anything else I should check? Is the control damaged?
As additional info, I do notice that little cool air is felt entering the refrigerator from the freezer.
Thanks for any additional help you can give me.
I continued some troubleshooting in my refrigerator and found that the vents from a piece called diffuser, which has small vents where the cool air from the freezer enters the refrigerator side, were closed. This is odd, since the refrigerator was clearly not cool enough and I would expect them to be open so that the cool air could enter the refrigerator. I simply opened them manually and now I can feel the cool air entering the refrigerator. Could this diffuser be a part of the problem?
