Why seiki 40 inch has gray screen no picture but has sound

It's possible the Monitor has failed, but here's some tricks I would try...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your display on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.
Good luck.

My compaq laptop will not turn on. With the power cord plugged in the power port light is on but nothing else happens. None of the display lights light up and nothing appears on the screen. Only the power...

if u know repairing laptop ,u just open the back case of that and remove full outlet & see where the screen display chip is attached to the motherboard,if u see that u just remove the screws and clean it, afterwords add some heat sink compound to that and attach with screws, this is the best best solution & do it carefully

Power Issue

sounds suspiciosly like your chord fitting is damaged(loose wires at connection)and shorting.if possible try a friends power supply with same connecter type before renewing cos could be faulty(loose)connection at pc(inside)constant pushing and pulling of connections often causes 1. loose split or disconnected wires at male connection or 2.loose pins on motherboard female connection or broken housing (not difficult to repair)more difficult to find out how to get to internal connection.
