Question about Computers & Internet

4 Answers

I was fixing some problems my friend was having with her Compaq Presario V600 (o/s Vista Business) and went to re-start once I was done and it will no longer boot. It comes up with the screen where you can choose to boot in safe mode and when you choose it it freezes when it is looking through the system32 files. Have tried booting from a normal Vista CD and it does not have the C: driver, so I asked her for the disc that came with the laptop and she said it didn't come with one. When she asked at Harvey Norman where she bought it they said you don't need a disc, its in the computer.... does this make sense? How do I do this?

On the screen it says V6000, on the bottom it says V6500

How do I boot in DOS?

  • gabfoww Apr 28, 2008

Would that be Safe Mode with command prompt?

If so, when I choose this one it goes to Loading Windows files and gets stuck on:
    Loaded:\Windows\System32\Drivers\crcdisk.sys

That's my problem. It came with no disc. Apparently it is IN the computer!
I am going in to the shop where she bought it to find out exactly what they mean by that. Maybe she's not understood their instructions and given me half the story.

If your computer does not display such prompt, consult your owner's manual or contact the manufacturer for instructions. Your computer manufacturer may have selected a different keystroke sequence; the following sequences are commonly used:
Ctrl+Alt+S
Ctrl+Alt+Esc
Ctrl+Alt+Ins
Note: If you press the keys too early, the BIOS may display an error message

    .
Press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts.

    Note
You have to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows
logo appears, you must try to restart your computer. To do this, wait
until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shut down and restart
    your computer.

    5.
Log on to your computer by using a user account that has administrator rights

Hi,

If the PC never boots in safe mode while loading sys32 files then we need to correct the windows files.

1.Try booting in DOS and run CHKDSK /F command. This should fix the bad sectors and corrupted files.

2.If it doesnt work then try a system Restore through Recovery Console.Follow the below steps:
-Turn OFF the PC and while rebooting Keep tapping F11 key.

-You will see Recovery console and first option will be System Restore, Execute the system restore by selecting any previous restore time.

    Hi,

Well, as u have Compaq PC, there should be an inbuilt Recovery Partition. So we can try doing the System Restore from the Recovery Console Manager. If that Doesn't works then you have to reformat the Hard Disk Drive(Destructive Recovery).

1.keep tapping F11 (for HP & Compaq Only)when system boots and Recovery Console manager will Open.

2.By Default Recovery Console manager will Prompt you to perform system Restore, just run it..if it works..thats Good..If it Doesn't then enter the Recovery Console manager again and perform Recovery for the PC (i.e) Reinstalling the OS with the help of inbuilt Recovery partition.

    Stay in Touch with Updates...

    Thanks.

Sorry i mean to say that is your model v600 or v6000?

  • Priya darshan Apr 28, 2008

    HI,

If you want to boot with the vista disc you have all you have to do is restart the PC by hitting F2 repeatedly and then you'll get the BIOS screen from there you will have to go to the boot tab and then select cd/dvd hit enter and then ssave and exit.
By this way you'll be able to boot with that disc you have.

Vista bootmgr is missing not corrected by insalling dvd

I had the same problem. To fix it, I went in on the command prompt. I got there using the Vista installation disk. I think it gives options to use the cmd prompt. Then I looked through the computer to find where the boot manager was located. I had two partitions and Vista installed the boot manager on a partition that wasn't C:\. Once I found where it was located, I used the CMD prompt to manually copy (in case I was wrong) the bootmgr over to the C:\ drive that I booted from. Once that was done, I did a shut down, reboot with the Vista disk and repaired Vista using their repair or restore menu on the disk. It worked.

I previously did a search on the internet and was pointed in the right direction although their solution didn't work for me. This did. Good luck with fixing your computer. Vista is like Win98 on drugs!

Yeah I dont think they are allowed to make xp drivers even if they wanted to. Try getting all the information about your computer as you can, video card, audio card, nic, ect. Then download separate drivers for everything. If things dont work out just go back to vista or linux, (fedora, ubuntu, kubuntu, red hat, ect.) linux is better anyways and its just fun to use.
