Hello rnavbch,

This is most likely due to 2 problems -Temperature or a bust capacitor,

1. There is a simple trick...just warm the back of the TV with a hair dryer for 5-7 mins after you have unplugged the TV. Look for the little areas of holes in the back panel of TV. Use these as your guide at where to use hairdryer., but don't hold the dryer too close(say 5-6inches away). (Make sure the dryer is on High heat). If the TV doesn't turn on after you have heated it up (like it tries to come on but then turns off) you need to unplug the TV again, this resets it. And repeat those steps till it works. Reseting the TV after it fails to turn on is the key. Also, just leave the TV on. Don't turn in off. Since it is LCD, it doesn't take much power...only a few bucks extra a month for your utility bill.

2. You can also try this..if you unplug the TV, and hold in the power button while plugging it back in, this will reset the TV, and sometimes it comes on.

3. If you want to go in for a long term solution, you can easily replace the whole power board (should be about $20 or so), or just change the faulty capacitors. You can make out which are faulty, because their caps will be swollen on top. Here's a pic

Check the specifications of the faulty capacitors, and get the replacements from your local electronics shop. If you are comfortable with this, you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to G-E-N-T-L-Y pull out the defunct capacitors. Once that is done, solder in the new capacitors carefully. If are unsure how to do this, try to get a friend who knows how to do this kinda stuff do it for you.

PS. The capacitors are usually 680 - 1000 micro farad and 35V. however, if you dont find 35V, you could use a 50V as well. They will be slightly larger, but you should be able to get them to fit in.
You can buy the capacitors online from HERE or HERE if you wish..They cost $0.068 - $0.85 each, depending upon the model.

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved or you are satisfied. hi,
just try the hairdryer trick AND the hard reset (points 1 and 2). If you are not sure about about how to replace the capacitors, its ok. Get a technician to do it. If your TV is under warranty, then it is best to take it back to the shop you bought it from.

    Hair dryer trick.
    1. Unplug TV from power socket.
    2. Use a hair dryer in full heat near the back of the TV to warm it up.
    3. Hold the hair dryer about 5-6 inches away from the holes at the back of the TV.
    3. Put high heat and warm the back of TV for about 10 mins.

    Hard reset:
    1. Unplug TV from power socket.
    2. Press the Power button on TV.
    3. Plug the TV back into power socket while keeping the power button pressed.

    Hope that helps.

Screen is fine when I first turn on TV, then goes black

Sounds like you dlp lamp is going out. That's a pretty old TV and if you are still running on the stock lamp this is exactly the type of thing that will happen. The lamp model for this particular tv is the ty-la1001. You can find that over here:

Dvd compartment will not open. I removed the back panel of TV to see if I could see what is in there and noticed the dvd compartment is it's own separate compartment. I didn't bother it any further, I...

Hi guys, or gals,
I took the TV/DVD combo to Radio Shack, the kid there, and I took the entire TV apart, which was what was needed to even get to the DVD compartment, we took the compartment apart and found that a small, rubber washer surrounding two gears, that work the opening and closing of the DVD player had dry rotted and snapped. I left the kid take my TV home to see if he could locate a washer for it. So now you know. Hope this will help y'all in the future. Suggest that people don't buy TV/DVDM Combo's. (-:

Hi! name's wesley. anyways, here's the problem. i just bought a new samsung 32' lcd tv and everything is great except for one thing: when i connect my ps2 to the "av 2" input, the sound comes out...

There is a problem with the AV2 input. Since this is a new set, return it for repair or exchange. DO NOT open it up as that would void the warranty.

Sounds like a power supply issue. Does the power indicator light up? Can you hear a click when the power button is pressed?

If you are electronically inclined, replace the three 1000uf 16v electrolytic capacitors in the power supply board located above the power switch. They are likely bulging out at the top and failed. They are the three in a row at the top - center of the board, located between the two black heat sinks. Make sure you get caps rated for 105c degrees! I recommend replacing them with 1000uf 25v caps. 35v caps will work but might be a tight fit as they are larger diameter.

Should cost you about $8 for the parts shipped. You can get them from partsexpress or digikey or any good local electronics store. Your local radio shack may have them but they won'y be 105c and thus may not last long.

Not handy, ask around, there is usually some electronic tweaker guy around that will install them for a few bucks.

This has solved the turns on / then off problem every time in the 3 I've done.
