Question about Televison & Video
In my case, problem was C504 (12pF, 3KV) on power board. Obviously damaged and discolored. The symptom was the same, initially powers on, then goes black. This cap is in the high voltage supply for the florescent back light lamp. Hardest part is separating the back case to access the power supply located in a metal shroud and taped to the LCD display backlight. No secret, just pry carefully starting at the two slots on the bottom and working around, takes a lot of effort and multiple flat blade screw drivers to work around. Once removed, carefully untape the tape at the corners of the power supply metal shroud. There are two metal shrouds, the one with four small connectors on one side with wires going to the back light is the power supply. Once loose, carefully remove the 4 connectors from the board. Then remove the 5 screws mounting the board to the metal can shroud. Then the board can be lifted to allow access to the power connector, which should be disconnected. Do not attempt to remove the connector with many wires (one red and many black), rather loosen the cable from the shroud bent metal restraining features. Now you can easily access the faulty cap, C504. Replace cap using standard desoldering and soldering principles. Assembly is in reverse order. Good luck!
