Question about RTO Atwood DSI-RV Water Heater-6 Gallon

1 Answer

Atwood 10 gallon H2O heater- replaced thermal couple and electrode spark and sensor but heater comes on with switch, heats water for 10 to 15 mins then burner goes out. Can hear a couple of switching sounds from near the outside of unit and then the DSI light comes on at control panel inside. Seems to heat the water to quite hot but have to turn off switch wait and turn on again to restart unit.

I'd check that ECO and thermostat discs are making contact properly with tank.Just peel back foam cover on outside of tank that has ECO and THERM marked on it. If they are installed correctly, replace them.

My Atwood GC10A-3E will come on the first time I flip the switch. After that it will not relight until I turn it off and back on. When it relights it sounds like an explosion in the tube. I feel it is...

Sounds like some adjustments are needed. Air shutter for one, and ignitor/electrode. Have you by chance observed outside with cover open when it tries to re-light? My guess is that it is sparking/trying to ignite, but adjustments are needed for proper ignition. A good cleaning of burner tube, electrode, and proper adjustment of electrode & air mixture should cure your problem.

My Atwood 6 gal. water heaters pressure relief valve starts dripping shortly after (8 or 10 min.) heat is called for, and dripping gets stronger until a full flow. I have checked all four hi-limits and...

If the water seems hotter than normal, then a faulty thermostat would be a good bet.
If water doesn't seem any hotter than normal, then check incoming water pressure.
usually 2 things cause that, too much pressure coming in, or thermostat faulty and not cutting out when normal temperature reached, thus higher temperature, and pressure. If both them check out, replace valve.

I have a Atwood 10 gallon electric/ propane water heater on the Hornet travel trailer I purchased used. There are two switches on the wall, one is an on/off switch that lights up and the oither is just an...

The two switches control the water heater either in the gas or electric mode. The switch with the lights would be for the gas operation, and the switch without lights would be for the electric mode. Prior to operating either switch, make sure the water tank is full of water. Turn your hot water tap on, if water comes out, tank is full. Connect trailer to 110 Volt source, turn circuit breakers on, Place switch without lights to on position. If water does not heat in 45 minutes, Install new heat proble. The gas mode should be repaired by someone that is familiar with that system. Atwood can provide you with a local service center.

The electronic ignition on a gas water heater will not heat up and glow red to ignite the gas to heat the water atwood r/v water heater

You won't see any red glow until the burner ignites and burns for a while. Its only an ignitor and flame sensor, not a glow plug style. The ignitor has to provide spark for gas to ignite, then it also senses the flame and keeps gas flow coming. What exactly is happening when you turn it to on?

First try taking the safety cut-out (looks like a diode in a plastic sleeve) out of the circuit by disconnecting both ends, one from thermostat, and other incoming power wire end, then just connect the female incoming spade connector directly to terminal on thermostat where it came off. If that fixes it, replace the cut-out.( thing in the plastic sleeve) If that doesn't fix it, try cleaning electrode ends well and retry, if no luck, replace the electrode assy. The electrode is also the flame sensor.

Have an G6A-8E Atwood water heater. It Starts fine and shuts down after a couple of seconds. I can see the diode in the control board continue to spark after ignition I replaced the igniter.

If it has the little thermal cut-off in power wire to thermostat (has a little plastic jacket over it) try removing it, and connect female spade from power wire, directly to male spade on thermostat, and see what happens. Also, make sure electrode is positioned in flame good for flame sensing properly.

Water heater working fine but very little hot water coming out

alot of time those small units do not have a fast recovery rate so if they are on for a min or more they might start to lose temperature. if it's on demand especially in cooler climates it might not have enough power to heat it up and keep up with your demand

Water heater locks out on my motorhome.

Try cleaning electrode and insure that it is in line to get heat from flame when burner ignites. That electrode is also a flame sensor. let me know if that helps. How long does it run when it does light?
