Question about Heating & Cooling

My plan jane evcon thermostat is not wired right. The furnace works fine. The air conditioner will only come on when you push the lever up hotter than it is in the room instead of cool. It will then run, but runs and runs and will not shut off. There are 4 wires, red that is hooked to screw with B by it because the blue wire has a piece of paper on it with a Y and is hooked to the Y screw, white that is hooked to one with W and green wire is hooked to the screw with G. little short red wire runs from left to right and then the ground wire is also red. Help me reconfigure this so I can be cool and not blow up my a/c 7670-368/A 65A-753-662 is on inside of cover. This is the thermostat that came in the house; just plan push up or down for temp at top and lever at bottom heat/off/cool. Thanks, Candy candyandzip@yahoo.com

Hi,
Okay....two things to check on...
make sure that the terminals and the wires are matched in the t-stat and the furnace board...R-R Y-Y G-G W-W ....if everything matches up then you have a fried t-stat... What you are saying you have in the t-stat should be right... so it has to be one of these other scenario's...

Thermostat not doing it's job.
Probably the contacts on the thermostat are stuck together, Caused by arcing each time it opens.
If you are up to it.... clean the contacts or replace thermostat,

look at the furnace and turn it on to see if the flames come on. Watch and see if they stay on for a period of time. If they come on then go out you may have a dirty flame sensor, if it goes out and then relights it may be a high limit switch getting weak. hope this helps.

This is a colemon evcon electric furnace for mobile home the blower work fine just won't put out no more heat any ideals

when the fan is operating, is the fan switch on the thermostat in "on" or "auto" position? if it\'s in the \'auto\' position, then the stat is calling for heat ok. if so, you should check the safety controls for closure...i.e., the rollout switches (if there are any) and the high limit control, you should also measure the voltage at the gas valve. if you have 22 -27 volts at the gas valve, and you have all upstream gas open, and you have gas available (not shut off by gas company), but still no fire, then you probably have a defective gas valve. otherwise, if you have a wiring diagram, it should be easy to find the problem.

Troubleshooting and Repair
Furnaces with electronic ignition systems may be much more efficient than their early counterparts, but they do it largely through electronics. However, there are still some troubleshooting you can do but fixing the problems can involve replacement of parts more so than repair or adjustment. PROBLEM: Furnace burner will not ignite
Possible Solution
  • With a Hot Surface Ignition (HSI) system, if a gas hissing sound is heard for about 7-10 seconds and the burners do not ignite, the furnace will go into lockout mode.
  • To reset turn the furnace power switch off and back on and try again. The switch is probably located on the side of the furnace. A reset button may also be found on the solid state controller. If resetting fails again, proceed as follows.
  • Turn off power and gas to the furnace
  • Remove and check hot surface igniter being careful not to touch the heat element. If it is cracked or damaged, replace the igniter.
PROBLEM: Furnace comes on for 7-10 seconds then turns off Possible Solution:
      • Turn off power and gas to the furnace
      • Remove flame sensor from its bracket. Lightly clean the surface with fine emery cloth and replace.
      • The problem may also lie in a bad ground or the the black and white wires being reversed (reversed polarity) at the junction box or outlet powering the furnace.
      • The electronic ignition control module must ensure current flow through the flame sensor to ground and if the polarity is reversed in the circuit there is no voltage potential and the flame sensor does not work and closes the gas valve.
      • If the black and white wires are connected correctly and the flame still drops out, then the issue may be a bad ground. Using a volt-ohm meter, measure between the white wire and the ground wire to be sure you have no voltage.

My coleman evcon fan motor does not come on. I put the thermostat to on so the fan would run but it will not come on. The rest of the furnace runs properly.

Did you check to see if you have power or fuse blown? If it is a furnace/ air handler and you are comfortable with electricity. Turn
Power off, remove blower door. Find where thermostat wires come into the control board and remove them. If you can find a jumper wire or aligator clips, hook them between R and G. Put blower
door back on and turn on power,

Fan should come on right away, if it does you might have a thermostat problem. If nothing happens but you can hear it hum
or hear nothing at all. Then more than likely the capacitor is bad and or the motor is bad.

Air conditioning runs all the time

I assume this is a manufactured home, this is probably a two transformer system, either your contactor is welded in the on positon or wyou have control wiring issues, (could be the thermostat)
