Question about Roper RT21AKXKQ Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have water collecting in the bottom of my refrigerator. Anything which is put on the left side of the refrigerator on any shelf, ends up getting a pool of water on top, and the excess gathers in the vegetable crisper drawer in the bottom. I am assuming it has to do with the defrost cycle, but do not know how to correct it. Is it something I can correct myself? Thank you for you time.

you may have a leak inside your refrigerator caused by a clogged drain hose. The drain hose takes water from your freezer compartment and carries it down to the drip pan beneath the refrigerator, and if that hose gets clogged or frozen over, the water will back up and leak inside the refrigerator. Access the back panel inside the freezer compartment by removing food, ice, and other items. You will notice approximately six Phillips head screws holding the panel to the refrigerator body Locate the evaporator coils these will look like a rigid accordion -- and find the drain hole underneath them. Sometimes this drain hole gets covered with ice and will prevent the flow of excess water through the drain hose. Use hot water to melt the ice covering the hole
Pull the refrigerator away from the wall and locate the drain hose running down the back of the refrigerator body. This hose will be white or clear, about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch in diameter, and attached to a small elbow fitting that connects to the back of the freezer compartment. Unhook the hose from the elbow fitting and use a pipe cleaner or wire to clean any debris from the fitting
Follow the drain hose underneath the refrigerator, unhook it from its clamp, and place that end in a medium saucepan or bowl. Pour hot water through the hose to clear any clogs.
Reconnect the drain hose, ice maker, and rear panel. Plug the refrigerator in

Water is collecting on the top shelf.

You will have to empty your fridge and remove the back panel.clean it out by pouring warm water mixed with Baking soda into the drain at the back of the freezer compartment and let it drain into the drip pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. In the refrigerator section, find the screws that hold the control console securely to the roof of the refrigerator. Usually there are two of them towards the front. The front part of the panel will drop down and then you will see a plug to separate so now you can remove the entire control panel and sit it on the floor or kitchen table. Now you will see the hole going into the freezer section and the other hole going to the defrost pan under the refrigerator. I am suspecting the tube on the rear of the console which is on the floor or the table right now is either cracked or not fitting snuggly in the hole at the rear of the refrigerator. If you do not find any cracks, take some putty and wrap it around the end of the tube and then reinstall the console/control panel making a secure and tight fit into the hole.

Water at bottom of refrigirator

Find the drain line from the freezer to the evaporation pan near the motor. Often the line is visible on the back of the fridge. That line is plugged either with food residue or the collection point in the freezer is solid ice. The self defrost feature melts the frost and drains it to the evap pan. If you remove the floor from the freezer area, you will see the collection point. When the line gets plugged with food, no water drains and then freezes to block the line even worse. So, if there is ice at the collection point, remove it somehow, maybe a hair dryer, and then clear the line by blowing compressed air from the bottom of the drain hose through to the collection point.

Water leaking and ice in bottom shelf of freezer

Chances are you have a bad seal around the door if it's leaking from the inside which causes the ice to form as well, or if it's leaking from under the freezer you lave a bad heating element that evaporates the water collected in the pan under the freezer or you have a clogged hose that goes to the pan under the freezer which also causes the ice to form because the water has no place to go. Defrost and try to find a way to blow out the hose that goes from your freezer to the pan under the freezer and that should take care of your problem.

STANDING WATER ON TOP SHELF

If the freezer is on top then empty out the freezer and remove the bottom and back liner of the freezer compartment usually phillips screws. In the back you will see the freezer coils along with a defrost element. Below these two items u will see a drip tray that collects water from the coils on defrost cycle, in the center of the pan will be a drain hole that connects to a hose that leads to a pan under the refrigerator.Normally the water is collected there and evaporated. The hole in the tray in the freezer is clogged. Thaw it and clean it until you can pour water in it and it goes to the pan down below. please rate me

Ice collects in bottom of freezer

Heya Johnpc,
The best way to check the fan is to open the door and to push in the door switch wait about thirty seconds and you should be able to hear the fan run. If you cannot hear the fan the chances are you should call domestic refrigeration tech out.

Another thing that also makes water gather in the freezer is the freezer door seal is old and not sealing correctly.

Is the freezer working all right still?
