Question about Xerox Phaser 8400 Laser Printer

2 Answers

I have ink in all slots, however there is less ink in one of the slots. My prints doesn't read all the ink and is saying I need more ink and will not print. Also it told me to empty out the tray, so I did that, it looked like there was melt ink in the tray and a piece of fuzz. I emptied the whole tray out. I got it to print out one page and it was all yellow. This is the ink stick that it is low on. I do not know much about this printer because I bought it used. At first no problems. I have only used it a few times, It now is giving me these issues. Any way to fix the ink reading problem? and did I do the wrong things by dumping out the melted looking ink?

Please check if slither of wax is blocking the wax hole. To check this take the front panel off, 2 screws from the back to release sides then unplug the wax stick holder. Check the hole & remove slither of wax from there. If it is clean then check if the ink sticks are properly inserted. The error occurs when the sticks doesn't touch the sensor. Make sure you are using the original Xerox sticks, if not then I'll suggest you to but them.

Also try this reset procedure, this may resolve the issue if it is not a hardware issue.

1) Press and hold the red button (info button) and the “OK” button simultaneously. This should take you into the Service Tools menu.
2) When in the Service Tools menu, scroll down to the “Enter Diagnostics” menu. Select the “OK” button. It will go through some cycling at this time for about 2 minutes. The screen may go blank a few times too.
3) It then asks for a confirmation, select “ok” again. The printer will go through a minute of rebooting. The screen may go blank a few times too. You are waiting for the diagnostic menu with the Test #00 “no test selected”
4) At this point hit the down arrow button until you reach the test #76. Select “OK”
5) It will ask for a confirmation. Select “OK” to confirm.
6) Then hit the down arrow button again and select the next test #75. Select “OK”
7) It will ask for a confirmation. Select “OK” to confirm.
8) Then hit the up arrow until you go over test 100 to test 01. “Exit diagnostics.”Select “OK”.
9) It will ask for a confirmation. Select “OK” to confirm.
10) At this time the printer will again reboot for several minutes & then should come up to a ready to print.

If the above reset procedure doesn't work then try another reset procedure to clear the fault. Before the Xerox logo centers press and hold the back and help buttons.
Once the machine displays beginning service mode release the buttons and it will reboot.
Once it boots up in service mode scroll to the FUNCTION menu and enter.
Now scroll to the CLEAR ISC FAULT and enter to reset.
Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Sounds like you have a printer head problem for the other colors. The printer head for the black, cyan and magenta color is probably busted this is why you are only seeing color yellow because the only good printer head left is for yellow. You can try to have your printer checked if its cheap enough to replace the heads but I think that you'll probably be better off buying a new printer... you can get a good quality printer for just under $100.

I hope this helps. Thanks and good day.

How do i change an ink cartrige in a canon 160 printe

The Canon Pixma inkjet printer is an all-in-one printer, scanner and copier capable of printing high-resolution photos. One handy feature is a slot for a memory card so you print photographs directly from your camera. It can also print completely without any border for full-sheet photos. Printing photos and other high-fidelity documents uses up ink more quickly, and you will probably need to replace at least one of your cartridges every three to six months, a process that should take you about three to five minutes.

1.urn on the printer and check the LCD screen for an indication of which ink cartridges are low. Note that recycled ink cartridges sometimes read "Ink low" even when they still have ink, so print a test page if you're not sure.

2.Expose the ink tray by lifting the entire LCD control panel, which is attached to the underside of the copier tray.

3.Pull out the used ink cartridge by pulling straight up from the print head, and dispose of them safely and carefully by putting them in a sealed bag.

4.Remove gently any packaging from the new ink, after giving it a few shakes. Pull off the protective tab on the cartridge, insert the new cartridge into the print head and push down until you feel a click. Close the printer lid and let the printer reset the ink tray.

5.Print a test page to make sure the new ink works. If it doesn't, you may have forgotten to remove the protective tab under the cartridge.

This model printer has only two slots for ink cartridges. One is for a black ink cartrigde and the other is for a tri-color cartridge which contains cyan, magenta and yellow inks.
This tri-color cartridge has run out of yellow ink, you need to replace this tri-color cartridge.

Our Lexmark Prospect Pro205 has sufficient ink in the black cartridge. The error message says there is interference with the black ink cartridge. Black ink does not print, but color inks print.

Your cartridge may need to cleaned. On the printer operator panel, press Setup button -> Maintenance -> Deep Clean Printhead. Your printer will then print a test page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them.
If that doesn't help, your printer probably needs to be updated. The firmware update, available at, will help fix print quality issues.

How to change ink in HP Deskjet F480 printer???

  • Check the ink levels by opening the HP Solution Center. Click on "Settings." Click on "Toolbox." Click on "Services." Click on "Service this device." Click on "Estimated Ink Levels." A graphic will appear showing the estimated ink level in each cartridge.
  • 2 Verify that the unit is on. Open the print cartridge door allowing the print carriage to move to the far right side of the unit. Once the print carriage has stopped, lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it. Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot. To replace the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. To replace the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right. Place the cartridge in a plastic bag as it may still contain some residual ink and may leak.
  • 3 Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging. Remove the plastic tape by using the pull tab, being careful to not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles under tape.
  • 4 Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Gently push the upper part of the print cartridge until it clicks into place. The tri-color print cartridge fits into the left slot. The black or photo print cartridge fits into the right slot.
  • 5 Close the print cartridge door. If the print cartridge alignment sheet prints, load it on the left front corner of the scanner glass with the top of the page to the left. Verify that there is plain paper loaded in the input tray, and then press the "Scan" button to align the printer.

take your ink cartridge out from your printer. you can see at the ink carriage there are little pipes where the ink usually flow from cartridge. If head cleaning and power cleaning does not work, then try to clean those pipes by using 96% alcohol fluids and **** the pipes using something.

    Won't print after replacing cartridges

The following text copied from HP website to tackle this problem. minimtop.gif Follow the instructions below to install the print cartridges. NOTE: If you are installing ink cartridges in the unit for the first time, be sure to use only the print cartridges that came with the unit. The ink in these cartridges is specially formulated to mix with the ink in the print head assembly at first-time setup. s.gif Installing the print cartridges minimtop.gif
    1. Verify that the unit is on.
    2. Open the ink cartridge door. Figure 1: Opening the ink cartridge door c00718797.gif

    4. Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging.
    5. Hold the ink cartridge by the handle and then slide the ink cartridge into the empty slot. Too much ink to few padges printed

The 1000-1500 mark is usually just a guess - it usually assumes no more than 15% coverage of the page.  If you are printing out very large pictures (full page images) or are printing lots of a single color (green landscape images), then the ink will run out a LOT sooner.

Can't get ink from new tank into the head area without forcing w/airpressure (blowing into it). Printer prints after this until the ink runs out. This started after using the cleaning setup many times...

    copy and paste

From what I am seeing it is very easy to mix up the two black tanks which causes it to keep cycling and using the ink supply.

    • Make sure that the ink tank is inserted in the slot that corresponds to the ink tank’s color. • If you insert it in the wrong slot, perform head refreshing two or three times.

I read this chapter about four times, it is difficult to say the least. I hope this helps, but the only thing I could find on ink being wasted is in the maintenance section.
