SOURCE: how do you change the string feeder on a ryobi gas

If your machine is a "bump feed" there should be a knob on the bottom of the string feed.....this is a LEFT HAND thread, so turn it clock wise and it should pop free and your cartridge and replace it tightening the knob counterclockwise until it stops....that should do it !!!... ;-D

SOURCE: Ryobi 700r 31cc 15" Trimmer,

Hi and wel;come to FixYa, I am Kelly.
The part you need is item 9 on most parts lists:

Your problem is caused by either drive shaft failure or.. clutch failure. Most of the time the drive shaft fails before the clutch.

The manual is here:

Shaft is PN 682064 or 753-04280

Sears parts direct has the shaft as item 10 this link:

Detailed view:

Lower price here:,-Shaft-(Rpls-682064)/product_info.html

Average price ($32.50)

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Ryobi problems

Sorry not to have better news. The plastic housing on that trimmer is not strong enough to support the drive gears. Ryobi has discontinued that model.

I have had mine apart several times. The housing for the gear cogs is plastic and flexes. I've tried to reinforce it and added spacers between the plastic housing and the bearings that support the drive shafts in attempt to force the teeth together. But the trick only lasts for a few minutes. As soon as I start to cut with it, it stops again. It's just not worth the time, effort and frustration to continue working on it just to have it stop working again.

I finally discarded the Ryobi unit and purchased one with a metal (aluminum) housing. I think it is a Poulan Pro model from Walmart. It has worked well.

Need to sharpen Ryobi hedge trimmer. How do you release blades?

A model number would be necessary. Look for a label with a model RYxxxxx.
You can see an illustrated parts listing by going to Click on the parts tab. It will send you to their parts vendor's website. Then type in your model number and you can see the parts breakdown. If your blades are rivited together, just buy a new set of blades. If your blades are bolted together, then it is possible to sharpen them.
I would still recommend to know how much new blades are. In my area, there are only 2 repair shops that sharpen hedgers, and they both charge more than $50 to do this.
Good luck!

When in operation the Ryobi S430 string trimmer leaks oil continuously. How can I fix this problem?

Ryobi told me the unit can't have the s430 trimmer bottom end raised higher than the engine at any time, or it will leak. Apparently they released a product to compete with other companies for cheap 4 cycle trimmers without much care for the end user.

Can I get my Ryobi Hedgetrimmer blades sharpened or replaced ? Its only 2 years old and blunt already, it struggles to cut conifer and tears rather than cuts. I am not impressed.

If the blade set is bolted together, then a local repair shop should be able to sharpen them. Look for a shop that works on Echo or Stihl hedgers, as they can be sharpened. If the blade set is riveted together, then it must be replaced as a unit. You did not list the model or item number for your hedger, but try or . Both sites will allow you to type in your model or item number to look up all the available parts.
Good luck!
