Question about Standard Horizon Cp180i Gps Chartplotter With Int Ant

Open Question

Have a standard horizon 170c gps chartplotter which will not complete the coordinates acquiring. Shows it attempting to acquire, but won't complete process. Also shows a Oct. 09 date and time which is two months after its last operation. It had some antenna connection problems, so I had a new antenna connection replaced. If I disconnect the new antenna connection, the acquiring attempts stop, and when I re-connect, it starts attempting to acquire again, with the same Oct. date and time listed. Any suggestions, would appreciate. Thank you, Marc J.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

SOURCE: standard horizon 155c not acquiring signal

If the signal is good statement seems to imply that it is working, perhaps this is my misinterpretation of what you mean by this.
Signal refers to the abi;ity to connect to satellites
4 are requied for triangulation.
If the unit is fully charged and not connecting , then it is quite possible that the unit has a damaged SIIRF chip or whatever chip was used in your model to acquire satellite connection. The cost of repair is costly, it means total replacement of the M/Board.
Never start car with the unit connected into DC car power, spikes will damage the chip

Why does My 170c is not receive signal. It shows "acquiring" all the time

It is not "linking" the GPS signal to your GPS receiver. There may be a "dead spot" you are in or the unit itself has a malfunctioning RF unit within the GPS receiver. You cannot be under a bridge or other obstruction with a GPS unit for signal to reach it.

Screen says c card invalid

Your best bet here would be to either head for a marine chandlery that handles these C-Cards and have them plug yours into one of their chartplotters or a vessel nearby that uses the same cartridge.

If your card works on theirs chartplotter, the problem lies within your CP150. If they get the same fault displayed as you do on your unit, for some reason the Card has a fault.

Hope this helps.

How do I find my coordinates?

I don't know what model of GPS you have but if you can set your "home" location with the GPS after it has acquired a satellite lock, the coordinates should be displayed automatically for you.

Not acquire sattelites

place the GPS outside with a clear 360 degree view of sky or as much of the horizon as possible and leave it for a few hours it needs to download the almanac from all satellites before doing this

from the Acquiring Satellite page press menu and make sure that the topline of the menu reads "Use With GPS off" if it reads "Use With GPS on" (this means it will not find any SAT's ie for indoor use) press enter to turn the GPS Receiver on
