SOURCE: anti virus program isolated a virus in the system32.svc file

You may have the wrong name for this beast; it seems to be a trojan: svc.exe
Check this thread:

Running Restore will only reinstall the virus according to this thread.

Try tapping either F5 or F8 (can never remember which) as soon as anything shows on the screen on boot. One of these will bring up a short menu with your available choices for boot.

SOURCE: avg 8 removal problem....

hi iam sharu
The recommended procedure is a time consuming one. You must download the latest version of AVG from the website, and then run it.

1) Click on the following link and download AVG to your desktop

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0

2) Double-click on the downloaded file to run it
3) AVG will present you with three options to choose from. Choose the Uninstall option to completely uninstall AVG

Add/Remove Components - choose if you want to add/remove some components or reinstall the entire AVG program
Repair installation - this option repairs or reinstalls missing or damaged components of AVG
Uninstall - this option removes the AVG program from your PC

4) Once the uninstall has completed, restart your computer. You can then proceed to install another antivirus or install AVG again.

Hi,
Before jumping into a conclusion that your computer is infected, please check if you have programs like Strongvault, Wajam installed. They will give you popups.
If not use the following tool from McAfee to scan for suspicious files in the computer.

ALL folder turned into shortcuts and i really don't know how to get back my stuff. You know the hard drive has music shortcut document shortcut. Somebody help me.

You must have had them all selected and then dragged them somewhere, then maybe dragged back, creating shortcuts at that location. This could be done accidentally by holding the ALT key (or if that key is stuck down) while dragging them back or by holding the right mouse button instead of the left. If it was the right-button thing though, you would have had to also left-click on 'Create Shortcut' on the menu that popped up.

If this is what happened your 'real' folders will be wherever you dragged TO and the shortcuts will be wherever you dragged BACK to.

The fact that there are shortcuts is not alarming. Your originals must be somewhere! Use the Search function to search for any file or folder name you can remember. Start at the root of the system (My Computer) to search everything; it could take a while so be patient. When you find the missing folders just select them all and drag back to where they belong (or Cut from current location, Paste in new location).

Run my new anti virus which picked up a problem on somthing called OLEPR032.DLL and gave me the option to delete it which I did (God do I regret doing that). How I keep have a pop up saying that this is...

Open up the help in XP and type do a search for System Restore Wizard.
Follow the instructions and it will give you a choice to restore your system to the way it was at an earlier date. Choose a date from before the problem started. Any programs you have installed since then will need reinstalling but you won't loose any data.

It may also restore the virus in the dll but you can find another way to fix that apart from deleting the file.

If that does not work you can boot from your XP cd and choose the REPAIR option.

I hope this helps

Okay my sony laptop windows vista crashed . it turns on but then it goes to a blue screen , i can get it to safe mode & i tryed disabling stuff but it like wont restart either , it goes from a blue screen...

Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key on startup, once you're in safe mode, run the system restore tool (usually in start -> program files -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore) to a few days earlier and restore. After that, install an Anti-virus application, such as AVG Anti-Virus, and scan your computer to remove the problems.

Hope this help!

You need to be more specific with your problem, like do you haveananti-virus software installed on your computer? If so whatisit? I suggest you invest in getting one and that wouldpreventyou from getting a virus if you got a good one, and would removeit foryou more likely too. And as for the addware, I strongly suggestyoudownload adaware which will detect all adware and will deleteit. You can download that at www.lavaware.com for free.

Hello there.

Virus and spyware problems are very popular unfortunately, most tools are unable to find and repair all problems, so its best to try alternative methods to remove the most stubbern infections.

I suggest using an online scanner, something like http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/housecall . Open this address and click "Launch Housecall free scan". This will download the files needed through your web browser and run a scan without actually installing the antivirus package in windows. It wont interfere with existing antivirus / antispyware software.

If you cannot remove all infections, then please show us a screenshot or a list of the infections from the scan end page and we will assist.

Hope this helps.
