What camera body? What exposure mode(s)? Can you try a different lens on the camera, or the lens on a different body?

Hi experts. my D80 with AF-S Nikkor VR lens refuses to AUTOFOCUS. When half pressed, the focus just shifts wide / close unable to latch onto anything - and I cannot complete the shot. Manual mode seems to...

Hi, first try cleaning the contact lens and body (off Camera & Without bat.) isopropyl alcohol.
Do you hear any noise in the lens when you focus on auto?
If your answer is yes, maybe the SWM has been stuck and not turning.
If you have the tools and you can carefully try to disarm it by removing the screws holding the lens connector 2 screws, then holding the back cover ring 3 screws and it comes out, you let the sw AM VR on / off, and eventually take away the bayonet unscrewing the screws that hold it.
Remove the cover and can you see

There may be some connection misaligned flexible connectors.
SWM bad.
Electrical bad component.

I hope will be usefull.

Copier too dark

Did you clean the lens and the mirror under the lens cover? If so, There is a VR behind the front cover of most small Xerox machines. One VR makes the image darker/lighter and one VR changes the lead edge registration.

Vibration Reduction not working

This feature is not an "end-all" to using a tripod for those razor sharp images. The VR may buy you one or two stops of light max. This may be enough in a pinch but invest in a tripod (a good one) for razor sharpness!
