Had it been working flawlessly before?Maybe damaged cable or firewire card.

I bought a new cable, also tested it on another computer, my even older camera works immediately . It seems to be the camera. I just wonder if it is a common problem

  • mr_nantawat Aug 19, 2010

    Possible.

    I have an outdated SONY
HC-32 mini DV .At first,I had difficulties connecting my cam to my
PC.After lots of fuss&buzz it turned out to be the faulty FireWire
port at the docking station.Doesn't cost much to fix,but genuine parts
(that darn port) was not available.it is then necessary to do some
modifications to use compatible parts instead.

    No,no,no.problem not completely solved,not yet.

    I
then could get connections. But it was totally
unstable&unreliable. After another lots of fuss&buzz, this time it
was the faulty FireWire card that I installed.Replacing with the new
one (same kinda cheapo made-in-Chinese card, but different brand) the problem is now
    permanently gone.

    Hope this helps.

I dnt hav usb cable for my handy cam DCR-HC52E ...

Product Summary
4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.

You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.

This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook)
NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.

Step by step instructions to transfer recorded videos from jvc gr-d370u to Pc, please.

First, you need a Firewire connection (also called IEEE 1394). Most of PC computers don't have it, including mine. I bought a cheap Firewire card and installed it into an empty PCI slot, costed about $15.
I hope you don't have the USB cable and the firewire cable plugged into your computer at the same time. That can break things.

With the firewire cable plugged into the DV port of the camcorder and the firewire port of the computer and the camcorder is in Play mode (and plugged into the wall AC power with the power adapter), are you saying that when you launch MovieMaker and "Capture", the video camera is not recognized?

There are only two conditions that can cause this:

1) The firewire400 port on the computer is not working properly (how do you know it is working?). If you are using Vista Home Basic, chances are good that the IEEE1394a firewire port drivers were never loaded... so, that will be your first step. Get that port working and you'll be ready to go.

2) The DV port on the camcorder is not working properly. This could be for several reasons, but lets hope the DV port was not fried if you ever had the USB and firewire connections to your computer at the same time... Reset the camcorder to factory defaults by disconnecting all cables, removing the rechargeable battery and removing the little date/time button battery inside the camcorder. Wait for about 20 minutes. Put the button battery back in, then put the rechargeable battery back on. Set the date and time. Connect the firewire cable to the DV port, connect the AC power adapter to the wall, connect the other side of the firewire cable to the firewire port on the computer, launch MovieMaker - will it "Capture" from the video tape?

Anyone you know nearby with an Apple Macintosh and iMovieHD? You will need a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable and the AC power adapter. If it works with the Mac, we know it is not the camcorder's DV port. If it does not work, chances are good the camcorder's firewire port is bad.
Hope this was helpful?

I have old tapes from an old camcorder Sanyo VM-D66P that I want to capture to my pc, how do I do this?

There are several ways of converting your tapes to a digital format.
1. By routing it through a DV camcorder with AV-input (these are increasingly rare though. (using firewire).
2. By using a device like this, which converts to DV. (also connects via firewire). http://www.dv247.com/invt/23453
3. By using a device which captures to MPEG2.

The cheapest way is option 3, but it requires a working camcorder. You should purchase a device similar to this: http://www.avforums.com/forums/attachments/camcorders-video-editing/85846d1216145397-camcorder-computer-easycap.jpg

If you don't have your camcorder anymore, or it isn't functioning, you should try to get a second-hand 8mm camcorder with firewire. This way you are able to directly convert your tapes to your pc.
If you can't find a firewire camcorder you could just settle with a good functioning 8mm camcorder but you will have to buy a capture device as mentioned above.
Good luck!

Jvc problem

I think you can by using the firewire cable, connect it to the the slot indicated by i (for iLink) DV on the camcorder and connect it ot the computer firwire port. A firewire slot is available if a Firewire card is isntalled on your computer. I am in the process of installing a Firewire Card (starting from $15.00 and upwards) hopefully everything works out.

After connecting,
Switch on the Cam.
Open Windows Movie Maker and import video from device.

JVC GR-D275 not seen as connected to computer

Many Camcorder users have faced problems while connecting their camcorder to their PC. One of the most common problems is ?no activity? after connecting the camcorder to the PC. The found new hardware wizard does not run and fails to detect the camcorder. This can mean two things. Either the DV port on the Camcorder is not working or the FireWire cable is faulty. Try using a different FireWire cable. If the camera is still not detected by the PC, try connecting it to a different PC. If the Camcorder is still not detected, then your camcorders DV port is most likely at fault. Confirming that the FireWire Port on you PC is working fine You can check the status of the FireWire port from under Device Manager. To access the Device Manager, Right Click on My Computer and then click on Properties. Select the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager. If you cannot see the FireWire port in the list, then it is not inserted properly into the motherboard. If you see a Yellow exclamation mark, then you need to install the drivers, which are usually bundled with a Floppy or CD with the FireWire card.
