Usually with DVD is not so much drivers...
if you have not already tried this..
go to the control panel..
then to device manager..
uninstall the CD/DVD drive, but dont click in the box that says "delete"..
reboot the computer then test a DVD out... it not alternative steps here...
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems
here is the microsoft link to the automatic troubleshooting service for this issue...
just click on the Run on the right hand side and it will start the automatic resolution for you.. it is the upper and lower filters in the registry if you already uninstalled and rebooted and nothing... the microsoft solution should work for you if contact the manufacturer...

It will not play Verbatim DVD-R disc that I burnt on my computer.

If it can read any other disk, you should burn your disk again because burning process was incorrect. your computer can't recognize the disk. In this case, probably you can't do anything, no way to try to read a bad disk if computer can't even "see" it.
By the way, you should test to read the disk on some other computer.
If happens with ALL your disks, your optical player is defective.
Again test reading with other computer if record was made correctly
As for your device, you should check if worth to repair and decide if repair or replace it.

How to install GH22nS50 Rewriter into my computer

These are the steps for installing your optical drive:
1. Remove both side covers on your PC case. 2. Locate a free 5.25 in bay on your desktop computer. This is usually located near the front/top part of a PC ATX case. 3. Remove the front/external cover for your chosen drive bay. This cover is usually not screwed in. You just have to pry it open. 4. Screw in the optical drive to the drive bay. You need 4 screws, 2 on each side. 5. Power connection : Locate a SATA power connector from your power supply and plug this into your new optical drive. The SATA power connector looks like this rjbautista.jpg
6. Data Connection - Locate the SATA ports on your motherboard which looks like this rjbautista_0.jpg
You need to plug in a SATA cable from your motherboard to your new optical drive
SATA cable rjbautista.gif
SATA power and data ports on the back of the optical drive

7. That's it! Your new optical drive should now work. it's plug n Play so you don't need to install any drivers for this device.

Dell studio 1537 slot load dvd drive when cd is iserted there is a clicking and whirring sound and cd is ejected immediately

Hi,

This is already a mechanical problem on dvd drive. Try upgrading optical dvd drive firmware from Dell's support website. Then, download and install IMG BURN. Run img burn. The software will perform a test. If the problem persists, have your optical dvd drive replaced.

I hope this works for you. Good Luck!

I'm using lenovo y500 series 4EQ laptop/vista home basic.however my DVD drive (matshita DVD-RAM-UJ-85JS) doesnt recognize dvds, blank DVDs in certain but it recognizes cds that came with the service pack

It may be necessary to upgrade the "firmware" (software residing inside the DVD unit) to recognize the "newest" of blank DVD media.

Each "blank" disk has an identifier electronically written onto the disk -- if the firmware does not recognize that identifier, it needs to be upgraded in order to recognize it.

Check Toshiba's "support" web-site for a firmware update.

I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop and my cd/dvd drive has been corrupted and is missing and now i cant play movies or cds and it happened two months ago wat do i do

The CD, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-RW, Blu-Ray and any other drive that uses a laser to read data from a CD. In general, most optical drive problems can be resolved by:
  • Updating the optical drive firmware
  • Updating the burning software
  • Updating the DVD playback software
  • Updating the computer's video driver in cases of video playback issues
  • Updating the computer's audio driver in cases of audio playback issues
To download the Firmware of your machine click here. i have selected the default 1525 but if you click on enter the service tag, it will give you your computer's firmware. or you can check it in device manager as well.
you can also try deleting the upper and lower filters. in regedit.

in vista. click on start /type regedit in start search.
then continue the action and then click on the +HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / + SYSTEM / +CURRENT CONTROLSET / +CONTROL /+ CLASS /+ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and on the right side look for upper filters or lower filters and delete them. and then restart the computer. it should fix this.

in case the issue is not resolved. you might need to get the optical drive replaced.

if this information was helpful. please rate the solution.

Installed the new "used" optical drive. Will play DVD but won't read CD-ROMs. What do I need to do? Thanks

This may sound stupid but I am not familiar with the drive you are asking about. Is it a combo cd / dvd drive or is it just a dvd drive? If it is not a combo drive, it will only recognize and work with dvds. Look on the bezel and see what it says, if it is a combo drive, go to the manufacturer and download the newest firmware for it and give it a fresh update.

Updated firmware for cd/dvd drive SN324F now the drive is not working and unavailable on my Samsung v25 laptop pc?

First thing you need to do is to enter your BIOS usually by pressing either <Delete> or <F12> during boot up (Depending on your BIOS) next look at the page that has your hard drive and optical drive information, If your CD/DVD is shown on one of you IDE channels, then theres hope that you can fix this yourself.

If it is not detected then the failed firmware update completely erased the EEPROM (memory chip) that contained your Drives Firmware. In this case you would need to take it to an authorized dealer to have this chip either replaced or reprogrammed with an EEPROM encoder.

If BIOS is detecting it then the same software you used to try the firmware upgrade will allow you to FLASH the firmware again. If you made a backup of your previous firmware before the update, this would be the best one to try to reflash with. If not please go to the website for the drives manufacturer and download the firmware 1 step earliar then the one you tried. Then try flashing THAT one. If that one fails too keep going back one earliar then the other until you get one that works or the machine fails to recognize the drive.

Hopefully this gets you back to a working condition.
Thanks for choosing FixYa
