Question about GE PSW26MSR Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a GE stainless steel side by side model PSW26MSRB. Incoming water supply line to ice maker popped out from back panel of unit spilling water (looks like it was originally attached with adhesive collar). I reinserted, but it popped out again when it tried to fill. Inside, the feed tube to the ice maker appears frozen over. I think pressure from incoming water is forcing the tube to pop out the back of the unit.

Your water valve has failed. the valve is slowly seeping water eventually causing the fill tube to completely freeze over. You are right - the incoming pressure is causing the tube to pop out. you can usually pull the feed tube out from inside the freezer and thaw/clean it out. but you will need to first replace your water valve.

Door dispenser not working

Is the ice maker working properly? There is a water filter in the refrigerator through which both the ice maker and water dispenser are supplied and over time it will slow down the flow and eventually block. Have you changed it recently? Often, ice cubes will get smaller as it blocks and the ice maker will also quit.
Also, have you checked the water supply line that goes to the ice maker and water dispenser? It should be a small diameter copper or plastic line that connects to the back of the refrigerator.

The ice machine stopped making ice

Is the freezer cold enough? Should be close to 10 degrees.
Is there water or ice in the ice mold? If not put water in it and see if it dumps the ice after it’s frozen. If there is ice, lift the cut off arm and let it drop to see if it will start.
If it does dump the ice but don’t refill with water.

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. It’s on the back where the water supply comes in. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

A strainer before the inlet valve can also get stopped up restricting flow.

Home from vacation--no ice.

Check the fill area of the ice maker for an ice blockage.

- make sure the tube on the back of the Ref. is connected to the white rectangled block of the fill tube.

- check to make sure the water filter in the bottom of the unit was not kicked and has popped out or is not seated / locked in place.

- Check to see if water is actually getting to the unit.. from the 1/4 inch supply line.

If your icemaker is the common one there here is a way to test it:

(I noted GE Profile but not an exact model number)

GE Profile refrigerator side by side, water and ice through door. Ice maker works fine, water will not shut off. Had to turn water to frig off.

The water inlet valve on the back where the water supply connects to the unit is stuck open. You may can clean the valve out and get it to closing or just replace it.

The water and ice taste and smells bad, and when the ice melts the water is cloudy

Replace water supply line. Do not use the braided metat line or vinyl. Use the plastic tubing ice maker line or copper.

My GE side by side ice maker quit making ice, no water sees to be entering the unit.what do i check for?

Pour 2 / 3 cup of water into the ice maker .
If it dumps the cubes , but does not refill with water , replace the dual water valve behind the refrig . This is the piece , the wall water line connects to , on the refrig .
If it does not dump the cubes , replace the ice maker .

How do i turn off the ice maker on a ge profile. thereis a bad leak from the hose in the back. can i just turn off the ice maker to stop the water flow?

You can lift the lever in the ice hopper to turn off the unit, or simply unplug the electrical connection to the ice maker inside the fridge. If your leak is in the line between the house supply line and the valve on the icemaker, turning it off will not solve your troubles. If that is the case, you can turn off the supply line valve.

Ice maker not making ice. Water disp inside frig disp water.

the line that gives water to the ice maker, every time the water comes down it lives a drip of water that turns to ice blocking the line, get some hot water and a towel and place the hot wet towel on top of the line intel it melts the ice in side the line. it happens to my frige at list once a year. if that is not the problem the valve that supplies water tho the ice maker needs replacing, it's behind the frige at the bottom, where the line coming from the house meets the frige.
