Dear, before you get in touch with Sony technical support you may want to try to use the PS3 recovery options. The PS3 stores a copy of firmware drivers on the hard-drive and will reload any corrupt files. To access the recovery menu, do this: Make sure the PS3 is turned off Press and hold the power button on the PS3 it will power on then power off. When it's off press and hold the power button again until you hear two consecutive beeps. When you hear the double beeps immediately take your finger off the power button (if your system turns off before you get a double beep just try again and hold the button, it should double beep the 2nd time you try) It will ask for the controller to be connected via the USB cable, Turn on the controller and you will have access to the menu. Be aware that you may lose all of your previously saved data (NOT trophies, they're stored online so don't worry).
Thank you for using Fixya and for rating my solution if you find it helpful. Peter_Rei

    Hi,
ok this sound hard but we're gonna try to fix it ok? ;)
Your ps3 problem is pretty common but there aren't so many DIY fix so many guys just call sony and they take your console for like one month then they usually give you a refurbished one with 3 months warranty (and they get 120/150 usd) so before wasting money and time i want you to try everything possible :)
Well, let me understand where and when you got stuck

    • were you able to go into recovery menu? this is the most important part because you have to otherwise it won't be possible to try any fix.

    • Ok, i'm assuming you got in there. Let's try a firmware update from inthere.

    1. You need a PC and a USB memory stick. Create a new folder on your USB stick, named PS3 then inside the PS3 folder create a new one and name it UPDATE (just be sure to call those folders exactly as i wrote them: PS3 and UPDATE other than that the ps3 won't found the file)

    2. Go here: http://us.playstation.com/support/system... download the latest firmware and save into UPDATE folder on your mem stick

    3. plug the usb device onto a free usb slot on your console

    4. restart the ps3 recovery options and choose "System Update" and follow the easy instructions onscreen. If it all went well the PS3 will get the firmware from usb key and hopefully it'll install it correctly.
NNow, if you're still stuck let's try smth more:

    • Access the recovery menu, first try the "soft" option: restore file system.

    • If it won't fix let's move over, enter the recovery again and choose restore ps3 system. This is a total restore, you'll lose all your data (movies, mp3's, pics, but you won't lose trophies and if you bought smth from PSN you can download your stuff again for free)

    • IF none of these did the job you have to call sony technical support :(
Well, as i told you before i'm assuming you could get in the recovery options, if you couldn't you should try until you can get in. For your convenience let me explain again how to do that:

    1. Switch completely off your PS3, also the main power behind the console. Hold on 30 sec.

    2. Turn on the main switch wait for the red stand-by led

    3. Turn on the console with the front switch and HOLD on it, until your console will switch on then off again

    4. Release the switch and now put your finger on it again and hold on it. ATTENTION now: you will hear the first beep, it is the switching on so don't consider it, after 1 second you'll hear another beep then after another second you'll hear 2 fast beep-beep in this moment release the switch.

    5. Now your ps3 will ask to plug a controller, it must be connected with the USB cord to the console, and press the PS key.

    6. You're in, make your choice.

    7. If you still can't get in, try again few more times.

    8. IMPORTANT: you can enter the menu only of your last firmware is 2.50 or higher!
    Please let me know!!
    Good luck,
    Peter

SOURCE: i system updated my ps3,while

The only thing I can suggest in this case is to download the update from the playstation website onto an external usb flash drive. You need to make a directory on the flash drive called PS3, then within that directory another called UPDATE. Put the downloaded update file within the update file. Next prepare your PS3 for updating via safe mode. Do the following -

Turn the PS3 off into standby (red light on)
Press and hold the power button until the PS3 turns back off into standby (It will have beeped 3 times while you were holding the power button)
Press and hold the power button again until you hear 2 quick beeps together.
Connect your controller via usb and press the PS button
A menu will load, choose option 6, and select external media. Follow the on screen prompts to install the update from the flash drive.

Hopefully this should work. If it does not then Sony are more than likely correct and it will need a specialist repair :(

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

It sounds to me like a disk error. Like out of space error. Try making sure you have enough space on your hard drive to install the new update.

I get error code 8002f1c0 on my ps3 at 69 percent of installing an update

Quite a few PS3 Owners have got this error while updating their PS3 Firmware

I hope you did not accidentally switch off your PS3 while the upgrade was running.

When you encounter this error while doing the firmware upgrade, you can check removing the Power Cord from the console, it needs to be unplugged for a few minutes (these systems store data when plugged in, and sometimes the data can be faulty). Unplugging it purges the faulty data from the system.

Re-Plug the console and connect it online again and check if the upload progresses or not.

The Second method of installing the upgrade is downloading the update from playstation website, and put it in a pendrive follwing the instructions. Then turn on your PS3 with the pen drive connected to one of the usb doors and let the installation process begin.

If the above two methods are not of any help, please DO NOT power reset your machine frequently as you may damage the PS3 totally.

Call up Sony Customer Support as last resort and send it for repairs if needed.

Good Luck, Wishing you happy Holidays and Happy Gaming

PS3 update problems

Hello!!
Ok, no matter how you try to install the firmware it will always write it to the hard drive first before install. Now if it gives you the 800 error while downloading it's your hard drive and it may need to be re-formatted or replaced. If you get an error during installation, then therewas a misplaced piece of code during the download and it needs to be downloaded again.

BTW, the power button default reset is ONLY for the Video output settings.

Hope this helps. Good luck and happy gaming!!
