Question about Lexmark Wheelwriter 15 Series II Typewriter

1 Answer

We have a Lexmark IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II typewriter. Machine type - 6783-007 Everything is standard on it and we have had it for over 17 years. When using it one day, it stopped typing. We have since unplugged it and tried troubleshooting to find the problem. We can turn it on and the lights will turn on, but the typewriter is unresponsive to any actions on the keyboard. I have opened it and everything seems intact but have been trying to figure out if there is a certain place I should look or something I should try to replace.

Are all the lights on? The lights are also used to display error codes. Check to see which lights are on and are any flashing? This would help narrow down the problem.

Look on and under the PC board if that is OK you may have a bad keyboard or a P/W sensor.

I have an IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II that when I turn it on and try to type, nothing types on the paper.

You probably have a broken plastic print solenoid cap. We sell them for 20.00 includes shipping and instructions.

How do you change the type print from 10, 12 or 15?

Check the manual.
You can download it from LEXMARK (go to the bottom of the page; in the "IBM Typewriters" list box select your typewriter model):

Hums, but no light and can't type

Turn the T/W off and see if the carrier will move freely back and forth. if it won't try some WW40 on the silver shaft it slides on.

IBM wheelwriter 6 Series II

try turning the machine off put a SMALL amount of oil on the large round rod running across the typewriter manually push the print head left and right a few times to see if it will loosen up. The problem is usually caused be drying oil you may consider having it serviced by a pro.
