Still getting the 'wrong cartridge' message. Was using non-Canon, but now have installed all Canon ink tanks, still shows some with varying levels, some full. All are full. Now what?

Cleaned printhead with alcohol and qtips, everything dry and clean, no chips, no mess. Cartridges in correct slots and clicked into place. Unplugged and disconnected from computer about 3 hours. No difference.

Tried cleaning the ink out, turned it upside down and shook it. Still says "wrong cartridge" Any other advice?

  • BrendaJ Aug 13, 2010

The only difference is now the message is "Wrong Cartridge" and then flashes " 100% Letter Fine", and underneath that "Photo Pro". Cartridge icons still show varying stages of fulness, but they are all full.

After going thru the "wrong cartridge" and "paper Jam" messages, orange alarm flashing, I'm finally down to trying to get printer to print. None of the above is happening now. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled, which looks ok now. Only icons showing incorrect is the ink tank levels, which should all show full, but show varying amounts of ink.

When I click print, it sounds like it's printing, paper comes thru as if printing, but nothing printed. What now? This has been driving me wild for about a month, and I've already paid for assistance here with no success. Pixma MP780, about 3 years old, new Canon ink tanks, cleaned printhead, Thanks

Please follow the below points to fix this issue.

1) The possiblility is that your sofware has encountered some errors while you loaded the new ink or otherwise.

2) First of all you will need to uninstall the printer software from your PC.

3)After that go for virus scan, clear up your cache, your temporary files, cookies, history by opening the explorer, open tools, and then internet options.

4)After that if possible use an advanced system care sofware which is available to clear up all malwares and software errors.

5)And then reinstall your printer software and check. It must work this way.

Thanks
Jimmy

OK, I've done everything you suggested. Nothing has changed. Ink cartridges still show some full, some half full. Wrong cartridge message still flashing.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First, verify that there is actually no paper jam (open all the doors, take out the paper tray, take out the cartridges and visually inspect). Turn printer off and unplug the printer from all cables (power, USB, etc). Try to hold it upside down and gently shake it so that if there is any paper inside it’s removed. If still it’s not resolved then clean the print head. To clean the print head take a hot water towel with the printer unplugged and the cartridges out, clean it till the time you see there is no ink residue on the towel. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Canon W6400 error message E02525 mean?

If you used a non-cannon refill, the cartridge may not have the microcontroller inside to tell the printer the ink level.

Use replacement cartridges from Cannon or SOPHIA GLOBAL (available from Amazon or ebay).

Error message more than one ink tank of the same color is install

You need to take all inks out and install 1 at a time to see what the display says after each. Sometimes you get a defective ink tank and it will report on the wrong one. Canon will replace a defective tank within 30 days of date of purchase.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.

Refilling Ink in Canon Pixma MP830

Hello, I found this in a repair manual for the MP830. summery is to press and hold the stop/reset button for 5 or more seconds. I copied the info from the manual too. The remaining ink amount unknown. [1683] (Applicable ink tank icon) The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected. An ink tank which has once been empty is installed. Replace the applicable ink tank with a new one. Printing with a once-empty or refilled ink tank can damage the print head. If printing is continued without replacing the refilled ink tank, press the Stop/Reset button for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a refilled ink tank. Note: After the above operation, the function to detect the remaining ink amount is disabled.
