Hi, I bought this tv at thrift shop last week. No instruction manual available. I got cable from Time Warner. Got the cable signal and got tv working. 3 days later no cable. I don't know how to...

If using a cable box then you want to set the TV to channel 3 or 4 as the cable box will output to one of those. If no cable box then its possible the TV's tuner is bad or your cable company only transmits in digital form requiring a cable box since this TV only has an analog tuner

I have an Orion 19"

You usually need the original remote. The trouble with universal remotes is that they generally control only the basic functions of a TV (power, volume, channel) but not much else. Without the original, you often lose other functions. You can try the front panel buttons if yours has them. On some sets the on-screen menus allow you to access caption settings.

But are you sure the captions are coming from the TV? Sure, the TV is displaying them, but if you have a satellite receiver, cable box or digital set-top box, the captions may be coming from that device. This is likely to be true if the captions just mysteriously started and you don't have or aren't using the TV original remote. These devices often don't allow a TV's built-in caption decoder to work properly, so they provide captions themselves. You may have turned captions on using that device's remote. Check the menu for caption controls.

Our tv audio is making white noise on all the channels

Hello
If you are connected your tv with a set top box, check the set top boxes' connection, and its settings according with it user manual. If the system set has varied to an other, this type of trouble will occur. If your are cabled, check the system adjustment of your Tv, and it is best to make it auto. Go through its manual and refer to the sound adjustments, and set the system to auto' If you have this option on remote control, "system Button", press it repeatedely to get the system set to auto. OK.

Hi - my mom's sony tv - kv-27s42 ---- even after reading the manual I can not stop the closed captions from appearing - can you please help? Thanks! Tony

First, it is a older set.

Second: if the CC is coming from the set you will need the original Sony remote---Look under captions and either turn them off or to something other than CC1.

Third:If some kind of cable or other box is being used to supply signal to the set the CC can be coming from it! Yes, these boxes also have CC settings.

Look at settings in set first and in the box (if you are using one) second.

If this told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Connect set top box to TV. Which coloured plugs do

That model has "SCART" video out on the back of the unit which can be converted to a number of different audio and visual cables which can then be connected to your TV. The RCA (yellow white and red) are the most commonly used and the easiest to set up. From there you can use S-Video, component etc. the manual can be found here: http://www.topfield-australia.com.au/downloads/TF5000PVRT%20BP/pdfs/Manual%20-%20TF5000PVRt.pdf if you are still struggling after taking a look at this, print it out and take it to your local audio visual retailer and they should be able to sort you out with the best cable. Hope it helps.

Set up digital set top box

Either tune your TV to channel 2 or 3 or (on some TV's) to 91.
Then, connect the COAX-output from the set-top-box to the COAX-input on your TV, or connect the "output" Red/White/Yellow RCA-jacks on the set-top-box to the Red/White/Yellow "input" RCA-jacks on your TV.

There are usually generic codes listed behind the rest, try those, or there is usually a code search function, try that, otherwise please let us/me know if you are using DirectTv or what kind of set top box.
Hope this helps

Can't re patch tv with set top box to watch tv

Hi.

Ok here goes.

1) Take airial lead from the wall socket in to antenna in on freeview box.

2) connect short usually black airial type lead in to antenna out socket on freeview. plug the other end of this lead in to aerial in on vcr.

3) connect the other end of this aerial type lead to airial plug on the back of tv.

4) now if you have 2 or more scart sockets on the back of tv set plug in the scarts in this order.
Freeview box scart with tv on it connect to scart 1 on tv set.
Freeview box vcr scart connect to vcr in scart socket on vcr.
Vcr scart marked tv plug scart from here to scart 2 on tv
If you have 3 scart sockets on tv you can connect dvd using scart to scart socket 3 on tv.

If Tv has only 1 scart the aerial leads will stay the same as I have stated,
Freeview must go to scart socket on tv set.
leave second scart from freeview to vcr plugged in so you can record freeview by putting vcr to line 1 or AV 1.
you will need to put tv on channel (0) & tune this channel to the video play a tape that you recognise then go to tv tuning & tune tv untill you see video playing then store this on channel (0).
DO NOT USE AUTO TUNING IT WILL PUT CHANNELS IN THE WRONG ORDER JUST USE MANUAL TUNING.

Now to view Dvd you will either need to purchase A scart switch box. Or have keep unpluging freeview scart from tv so you can plug in dvd .

If your tv has red yellow white phono sockets you can plug dvd in to these, you may need to purchase phono leads.

Hope this helps.
