Question about Panasonic Televison & Video

Ok here goes, our panasonic projection 47x47 is darker then it should be. Yes the brightness is turned all the way up. I cleaned the big lamps but didn't help. What else could it be and is there an easy fix (inexpensive solution)

I tried to get a fix from someone else but they haven't gotten back to me. I have a Panasonic model #47W X52F The problem is the picture is to dark. Yes the brightness has been adjusted to it's fullest level. I have cleaned the mirror and the lamps. Seems like a convergence problem.( can the convergence adjustments change the brightness? Or just give a fix.

Hi,

If you have never replaced the projection lamp on this TV it is most likely to be the reason for the dark screen. The replacement of this lamp can be a DIY repair but I do not suggest it as one. Often the convergence needs to be done and there are dangers inside that cabinet that many consumers are not aware of. The cost of the lamp alone will be in the $300 ballpark. There are other things that could be causing the problem. A failure is the power supply section is a good possibility. If the problem is not the lamp the TV will have to be repaired by a person with the needed test equipment to diagnose the problem and replace the defective components. Often the defective part became defective due to another part failure. A bad capacitor or resistor often causes this problem. TV repair is not a DIY project. The equipment needed to diagnose the problem is expensive and the knowledge to use this equipment and make the repairs will require several years of training. I would recommend that a electronics service company be called to do the repair.

Good Luck!!

Thanks!!

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems to be a convergence issue and the STK ICs needs to be replaced. However, please post back with the model no# of your Panasonic Projection TV so that I can further assist you.

Thanks
Rylee

The picture quality is getting darker, even after turning up the brightness setting.

You need to replace the lamp. Probably it's life is over. Over the time brightness of the lamp dips.

Why is my toshiba 46h84 picture getting darker than before? Its becoming harder to see darker scenes in movies

It sounds like your lamp is getting close to the end of its lifespan. The lamp is what gives your screen its brightness. With time they start losing this brightness. If you were to wait to replace it till it goes out completely you would have a black screen. You can purchase a quality lamp at discount-merchant.com

Sounds like you need to replace your lamp. The lamp number for this panasonic TV is TY-LA1001. Lamps run anywhere from $120-$250.

Your ballast may not be up to 100% of its rated capabilities, thats often the cause when the brightness level gets to unwatchable levels. You may need to troubleshoot the ballast voltages a defective ballast can usually cause a lamp to loose about 60 % of its brightness levels. The other possibility could be the DLP mirrors need polishing but that is something better left to a repair shop as the DLP mirrors are sensitive

Have you checked the lamps. Rear projection TV's have bright lamps, that can burn out. If you have had this TV for a while, that is the first thing I would check. If you still have to manual, it should tell you how to check the lamps and which ones you need to order.

These should be special lamps only Panasonic sells. Therefore they might cost a few bills.
